Aiming at the problem of existing no flatness issue while tandem cold mill rolling raw material supplied by 1700 hot strip mill (HSM), but heavy edge wave defect while rolling that by 1580 HSM, the flatness and structures for 2 raw materials were comparatively investigated. The results show that the bigger non-uniformity of the structures between the edge and the center for the raw material supplied by 1580 HSM results in different deforming heat which brings uniform transversal thermal elongation, finally leading to double edge wave defects under the same rolling conditions but with single target flatness curve. In combination with the characteristics of the raw material supplied by 1580 HSM, the specific target flatness curve was made, the edge wave defects was eliminated, and the flatness quality of the product was significantly improved.
