In order to solve vibration and noise problems brought by turbocharger, generation mechanism of chattering sound in sharp accelerating process was analyzed. Based on vibration mechanics principle, chattering sound was measured using LMS software on the vehicle. Finally, using exclusive method, the actuator was found to be the source of chattering sound. By attaching a pressure-stabilizing cavity in the actuator entrance based on principle of eliminating pipeline gas vibration and by adjusting stiffness of spring in the actuator based on simulation results, the chattering sound was completely eliminated. It is demonstrated that turbocharger chattering sound in sharp accelerating process is often caused by actuator entrance and engine exhaust pressure pulsation, the main countermeasures is to reduce actuator entrance pressure pulsation. ©, 2014, Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engines.
