The invention relates to a video server comprising: an input port configured to receive from a user terminal requests to deliver video segments, each video segment in a target representation; an output port configured to deliver the requested video segments to the user terminal; a data link configured to retrieve from storage capabilities, for each request from the user terminal a video segment in at least one source representation in an Open GOP scheme; an access to one or more video transcoding capabilities; said video server being configured to cause said one or more video transcoding capabilities to transcode at least a part of the video segment in said at least one source representation in an Open GOP scheme into the requested target representation in a Closed GOP scheme, when the requested target representation is different from a representation previously provided to the user terminal. It also relates to the corresponding user terminal, method, and computer program.


A video server comprising an input port configured to receive from a user terminal requests to deliver video segments in a target representation. The server comprises an output port configured to deliver the requested video segments to the user terminal. The server comprises a data link configured to retrieve from storage capabilities, for each request from the user terminal, a video segment in at least one source representation in an Open GOP scheme. The server comprises an access to one or more video transcoding capabilities. The video server is configured to cause one or more video transcoding capabilities to transcode at least a part of the video segment in at least one source representation in an Open GOP scheme into the requested target representation in a Closed GOP scheme when the requested target representation is different from a representation previously provided to the user terminal.

The tooth bottom fatigue strength of the externally toothed gear provided with differing numbers of first and second external teeth is increased, making it possible to achieve a strain wave gearing with high load capacity and small speed ratio.

An externally toothed gear of a dual-type strain wave gearing is provided with first and second external teeth (7, 8) having different teeth numbers. The first and second external teeth (7, 8) are flexed by a wave generator by the same flexing amount, into an ellipsoidal shape. The average pressure angle (1) of main-tooth-surface sections of tooth profiles (70) of the first external teeth (7) having a low teeth number is less acute than the average pressure angle (2) of main-tooth-surface sections of tooth profiles (80) of the second external teeth (8) having a high teeth number. Accordingly, a dual-type strain wave gearing can be achieved with which the first and second external teeth having different teeth numbers can be suitably flexed to form excellent meshing states with respective internally toothed gears.

The invention relates to a method and device for performing Just-In-Time Transcoding. The invention is applicable in the domain of video delivery, notably OTT video delivery, wherein users access video content in different representations. An encoding device according to the invention comprises modules for encoding video in a first representation, and generating symbols for retrieving decisions for transcoding video in a second representation. A transcoding device according to the invention is capable of decoding video compressed in a first representation, retrieve video coding decisions for a second representation according to video coding decisions of the first representation and symbols, and transcode on-the-fly video from the first to the second representation, upon the request of clients.

Upon determining that a video quality profile is associated with a compressed digital video bit stream, a final rate of compression for the compressed digital video bit stream is determined using one or more video quality profiles. In this way, a users subjective video quality preferences or the characteristics or capabilities of a display device can be considered in encoding/transcoding digital video.

Approaches for transcoding on-the-fly (TOTF). A digital video is encoded to produce a set of encoding decisions. A video quality profile is created that describes the set of encoding decisions. Upon determining that the video quality profile is associated with a compressed digital video bit stream, a final rate of compression is determined, frame by frame, for the compressed digital video bit stream using the video quality profile. The final rate of compression may be determined either internal or external to an encoder/transcoder. The video quality profile may be created by reviewing a plurality of encoding decisions to determine which encoding decisions merit inclusion based on a variety of criteria.
