We cloned a Cinnamoyl-CoA Reductase gene (BpCCR1) from an apical meristem and first internode of Betula platyphylla and characterized its functions in lignin biosynthesis, wood formation and tree growth through transgenic approaches. We generated overexpression and suppression transgenic lines and analyzed them in comparison with the wild-type in terms of lignin content, anatomical characteristics, height and biomass. We found that BpCCR1 overexpression could increase lignin content up to 14.6%, and its underexpression decreased lignin content by 6.3%. Surprisingly, modification of BpCCR1 expression led to conspicuous changes in wood characteristics, including xylem vessel number and arrangement, and secondary wall thickness. The growth of transgenic trees in terms of height was also significantly influenced by the modification of BpCCR1 genes. We discuss the functions of BpCCR1 in the context of a phylogenetic tree built with CCR genes from multiple species. © 2014 Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society.

The testing experiments to healthy poplar and larch logs samplings were conducted by using Arbotom stress wave testing instrument and universal mechanics testing machine. The relationships between dynamic modulus of elasticity of stress wave E1, E2, E3 and bending properties were studied in the two logs samplings. The results indicated that, in the poplar and larch logs samplings, the dynamic modulus of elasticity of stress wave E1, E2, E3 all had certain linear correlation with bending strength and modulus of elasticity in bending. © 2012 TSI Press.

Objective: To understand the structure characters of Pinussylvestris var. mongolica natural forest on Honghuaerji sandy land and provide the basis for protection and management. Method: The data of 2 sample plots of 100 m×100 m with each tree positioning were analyzed by the characteristics of univariate distribution and bivariate distribution with statistical software. Result: The results show that (1)The diameter at breast height (DBH) distribution ofP.sylvestris var. mongolica natural forest follows a single or multi shaped peak curve, and the vertical structure is simple, with only tree layer and herb layer. (2) The spatial distribution pattern of P.sylvestris var. mongolica natural forest is uniform distribution, close to random distribution; the spatial distribution pattern has nothing to do with the stand density; the stand in the fierce competition in the majority of individuals of P.sylvestris var. mongolica. (3) Under the condition of random distribution, most trees on the two sample plots are medium dense or dense, with little difference in dominance under different distribution patterns. In low-density P.sylvestris var. mongolicapure forest, most trees in intensive state aredominant trees, while in high-density forest, no relation was found between stand density and tree size distribution. Conclusion: The structure of P.sylvestris var. mongolica natural forest on Honghuaerji sandy land is unreasonable; some measures of density adjustment and structure optimization should be taken to improve the forest health. © 2016, Chinese Academy of Forestry. Lightning-caused fire is the most important natural fire source. Its induced forest fire brings enormous losses to human beings and ecological environment. Many countries have paid great attention to the prediction of lightning-caused fire. From the viewpoint of the main factors affecting the formation of lightning-caused fire, this paper emphatically analyzed the effects and action mechanisms of cloud-to-ground lightning, fuel, meteorology, and terrain on the formation and development process of lightning-caused fire, and, on the basis of this, summarized and reviewed the logistic model, K-function, and other mathematical methods widely used in prediction research of lightning-caused fire. The prediction methods and processes of lightning-caused fire in America and Canada were also introduced. The insufficiencies and their possible solutions for the present researches as well as the directions of further studies were proposed, aimed to provide necessary theoretical basis and literature reference for the prediction of lightning-caused fire in China.

Based on the related work requirements of seedling production line, we have designed pneumatic system of precision seeder, analyzed the principle and selected suitable components of pneumatic device.
