This paper presents an experimental study in high speed milling of SiCp/Al composites. Machining tests were carried out on a high speed milling machine by using chemical vapour deposition (CVD) diamond coated tools. The surface micro-topography was tested by the OLS3000 Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope. The Gaussian filtering method and the least square fitting method were used to treat the measured results. Two methods are compared according to the effect on keeping important original surface's character. The results showed that the least square fitting method is suitable due to its good accordance to the original surface's character. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications.

To eliminate the influences of signals such as vibration noises of roundness measurement, a Gaussian filter is taken as the measurement signal processing filter, and a new implement method for Gaussian filter is provided. A rational fraction approximation model is established based on the rational interpolation approximation. The corresponding parameters are calculated by matrix operation and an approximation filter of Gaussian filter is concluded. The maximum amplitude error of the ideal Gaussian filter and its approximation filter is less than 1% and the maximum amplitude error in the cutoff undulations is less than 2‰. A zero phase shift digital filter is concluded through the forward difference transform and backward difference transform. The corresponding digital filtering algorithm has the simple structure of one cascade zero phase shift filtering and high computing efficiency. The edge effect of digital filters is solved through the cycle continuation of roundness measurement signals.

Advancements were made to the fuel supply system on the basis of the original X195 Diesel Engine correlating its structure features, and we designed exhausting performance experiments on the injection diesel engine burning the mixture of ethanol and diesel. The results show that: the exhaust smoke and the NOx emission could be significantly reduced by ameliorating the engine. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Tungsten inert gas welds were performed on cast ZM6 magnesium alloy and T6 heat treatment was carried out followed. The microstructures of welded joints and heat treated joints were investigated by optical and scanning electron microscopy. The microhardness and tensile strength were determined. The results demonstrate that after solution treatment at 540 °C, the compounds in the grain boundary dissolve into the matrix. After aging at 200 °C for 16 h, three kinds of precipitates appear. The microhardness of weld seam and base metal reaches the maximum, which are 85HV and 81HV, respectively. The fracture locations of heat treated specimens in the tensile test are near the fusion zone. The heat treated specimens show the ultimate tensile strength of 260 MPa. Compared with not heat-treated of 160 MPa, the tensile strength of heat treated specimens is improved significantly. The tensile fracture of heat treated specimen surface shows two different areas, which are cleavage fracture and dimple-cleavage mixed fracture, respectively.

In the metal mold casting, the metal mold cooling process often was determined on the basis of a number of trial productions, thereby increasing the production cost. In order to solve this problem, this paper tried to use the numerical simulation method instead of using trial. Choosing low pressure metal mould automotive crankcase castings for the study, using the circulation casting function of commercial simulation software ProCAST, its circulation casting process was simulated. By comparing the equilibrium temperature field of castings and molds, under different mold cooling conditions, the best mold cooling solution was determined. And the results were compared with actual productions. The results show that using this method to determine the mold cooling process can provide theoretical guidance for the actual production of castings.
