Three new nickel (II) complexes containing 2-aryl-1H-imidazo [4, 5-f] [1, 10]phenanthroline were designed and synthesized. Their structures were confirmed by UV, IR, MS and elemental analysis. By using femtosecond laser, the off-resonant third-order optical nonlinearities of the complexes were measured with degenerate four-wave mixing technique. The third-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities χ (3) are (3.99-4.36)×10 -13esu. The nonlinear refractive index n 2 are (7.33-8.03)×10 -12esu. The second-order hyperpolarizabilities γ of the molecules are (3.98-4.37)×10 -31esu. The response times τ are 50-86fs. The influence of the molecular structure on the third-order optical nonlinearity was studied. The factors such as extended π-conjugated electron system, strong nonplanar intramolecular charge transfer lead to the high third-order optical nonlinearity. Source

Two new nickel (II) complexes were synthesized and characterized by UV, IR, MS and elemental analysis. By using femtosecond laser, the off-resonant third-order optical nonlinearities of the complexes were measured with degenerate four-wave mixing technique. The third-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities χ (3) are 3.21×10-13 esu and 3.58×10-13 esu. The nonlinear refractive indexes n2 are 5.89×10-12 esu and 6.58×10-12 esu. The second-order hyperpolarizabilities γ of the molecules are 3.21×10-31 esu and 3.57×10-31esu. The response times T{hooktop} are 54 fs and 59 fs. The influence of the molecular structure on the third-order optical nonlinearity was studied. The results show that large and highly delocalized II-conjugated electron system is the key factor leading to the strong third-order optical nonlinearity. Source

Four new donor-acceptor-donor anthraquinone derivatives were synthesized and characterized by UV, IR, 1H NMR and elemental analysis. Their off-resonant third-order nonlinear optical properties were measured using femtosecond laser and degenerate four-wave mixing technique. The third-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities χ(3) were 3.36-3.76 × 10-13 esu. The nonlinear refractive indexes n2 were 6.19-6.91 × 10-12 esu. The second-order hyperpolarizabilities γ of the molecules were 3.36-3.76 × 10-31 esu. The response times were 101-115 fs. The second-order hyperpolarizabilities γ of the molecules were 3.20-3.50 × 10-31 esu. The response times were 55-81 fs.
