The influences of the kind of combustion agent, the value of PN, the kinds of filler and pulp, calcium carbonate content, porosity of the cigarette paper on cigarette paper smoldering rate were studied. The results showed that smoldering rate value of the cigarette paper adding organic acid alkali sodium was higher than that of adding organic acid alkali potassium while the dosages of combustion agent were the same. The smoldering rate decreased as cigarette paper PN value increased when the value of PN was less than 80. When the value of PN was higher than 80, the decrease of smoldering rate was not obvious. The kinds of filler and pulp slightly effect on smoldering rate. Smoldering rate decreased as calcium carbonate content increased. Smoldering rate decreased as cigarette paper porosity increased. The factors influencing spiral making intensity of cigarette paper including the kind of pulp, stock composition, beating degree of pulp, type of calcium carbonate, pressure of the press rolls, pressure of the marking rolls and basis weight were studied. The results showed that sulfite using soft wood pulp and hard wood birch pulp as fiber raw material, increasing soft wood pulp ratio in stock composition, decreasing the beating degree of hard wood pulp, using liquid calcium carbonate, decreasing the pressure of the press rolls, increasing the pressure of the marking rolls and lowering down basis weight could increase spiral marking intensity of cigarette paper. ©, 2014, China Technical Association of Paper Industry. This paper described the characteristics of guar gum, cationic starch and carboxyalkyl cellulose, compared the performances of non-ionic guar gum, cationic guar gum and anion guar gum, and studied the application of guar gum and mixed application of non-ionic guar gum, cationic starch and carboxyalkyl cellulose. The results indicated that adding non-ionic guar gum in tissue pulp could enhance retention and tensile. Mixed application of non-ionic guar gum, cationic starch and carboxyalkyl cellulose could also improve strength of the paper and raise the retention of filler. Source

The influences of viscose fiber on porosity and tensile strength of the filter plug wrapping paper was studied by mixing viscose fibers with softwood pulp fibers as raw material. The results indicated that adding viscose fibers can enhance porosity to 3000 CU and the tensile strength to 50 N·m/g when the conditions are as follows: the amount of viscose fiber is 40%, beating degree of softwood pulp is 22°SR, and the dosage of the strengthening agent is 1%. The influences of the pulp used for cigarette paper production, basis weight of the paper, ash content, combustion agent content, and combustion method, on cigarette paper smoldering rate were studied. The results showed that the influence of the kind of the pulp is not obvious, the basis weight has quite significant influence on smoldering rate, smoldering rate increases as cigarette paper basis weight increase, cigarette paper ash content has slightly effect on smoldering rate, smoldering rate decreases as ash content increase. On the other hand, the lower combustion agent content the higher of smoldering rate, and combustion-supporting agent content has a significant effect on the dropped ash. Different smoldering rate tester has different testing result, horizontal smoldering rate testing value is higher than that of vertical smoldering instrument. Source
