Effects of Ce on microstructure and mechanical properties of ZnAl4 alloy modified by Ce were investigated. The results show that with 0.5% Ce addition, microstructure of die casting ZnA14 alloy is refined, where eutectic zone is increased. However, with Ce content more than 0.5% , comprehensive properties of the alloy are deteriorated as a result of the creation of Al4C 3 phase. The alloy with 0. 5% Ce modification was employed to produce carburetor. The production verified that the die casting behavior of the modified alloy is obviously improved, and air-tightness of the carburetor is greatly improved.
