Following the polymetallic nodules and cobalt-rich crust, seafloor polymetallic sulfide may be the third potential resources which can be used by mankind. However, the exploration on seafloor sulfide resource in China is still on its first step. Therefore, the summaries of the indicators and methods for seafloor sulfide resources and building practicable exploration mode will have significant meaning on the seafloor sulfide resource exploration and mining undergoing in China. Five areas from different tectonic settings were chosen as typical areas (TAG, Middle Valley, EPR 13°N, Lau Basin, Izu-Ogasawara Arc), and their geological, topography characteristics, water mass characteristics, the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of nearby sediments, life creature and geophysical characteristics were studied. The summarized exploration indicators include the indicators in the water mass and the nearby sediments, and indicators from geophysical and seafloor life creature. According to the above and together with the methods used on the sea investigation, the practicable methods for seafloor sulfide resource investigation were established. At last, according to different investigation scales, the different modes for seafloor sulfide resources exploration were established by integrated the indicators and methods. Source
