The high proportion of renewable energy generation connected with the grid has brought great pressure to the peak-shaving of electric power systems. Using energy storage for auxiliary peak-shaving is an effective way to solve this problem. However, the high cost of energy storage limits its large-scale application. To make full use of the peak-shaving function of the limited energy storage and reduce the load demand for energy storage capacity, this paper proposes a practical method to develop the combination of energy storage and normal, deep, given oil and start-stop regulation ways for peak-shaving. The calculation models of the technical index based on the probability of lack of peak load and the economic index based on the annual cost of peak-shaving are developed. The curved surfaces of technical and economic indices of the combined peak-shaving scheme are built. The combined peak-shaving scheme at the junction of technical and economic curved surfaces is the optimal one under different renewable energy penetration levels. Finally, with the regional grid and the national planning power system with wind and solar power as examples, optimal combined peak-shaving schemes under different renewable energy penetration levels are made. © 2017 Automation of Electric Power Systems Press.

Primulina hochiensis var. rosulata, a new endemic variety from Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated. It is similar to P. hochiensis sensu stricto, but differs in lacking stolons, the different indumentum of peduncle, corolla, filament and anthers, leaf blades elliptical to slightly ovate, calyx purple, corolla white or pink, filaments geniculate close to the base, staminodes 3, and stigmas translucent to white, obtrapeziform, 2-lobed. © 2012 Magnolia Press.

Two non-homogeneous Poisson processes including the power law process and the log-linear process with reliability improvement or deterioration are analyzed. Based on Akaike information criterion and Bayesian information criterion, the best model of failure data is presented. The point maximum likelihood and interval estimators of the parameters, as well as seven reliability indices of the log-linear process model, such as cumulative mean time between failures, cumulative number of failures, reliability at a given time, and warranty time given reliability are given. In tests for failure time trends, both the graphical methods, including the cumulative failures versus time plot and the total-time-on-test plot, and the analytical methods including the Laplace, the Military Handbook, and the Lewis-Robinson tests are used. Three real cases for failure data with failure truncation and time truncation of multiple numerically controlled machine tools are given to illustrate the use of the proposed models. © 2012 IMechE.

This paper describes a numerical method for calculation of the sensitivity and Hessian matrix of the response evolutionary power spectral density (PSD) functions of structures subjected to uniformly modulated evolutionary random seismic excitation. The method is formulated based on the pseudoexcitation method and the Gauss precise time step integration method. The evolutionary nonstationary random response analysis is converted into step-by-step integration computations using the pseudoexcitation method. The formulas of the pseudoresponses and their first and second derivatives with respect to the structural design variables are derived based on the Gauss precise time step integration method. The evolutionary PSD functions, their sensitivity, and the Hessian matrix are calculated using the pseudoresponses and their first and second derivatives, respectively. Finally, the evolutionary PSD functions' sensitivity and Hessian matrix analysis of a three-story, two-bay planar frame subjected to uniformly modulated evolutionary random earthquake ground motion has been studied to elucidate the proposed method. © 2012 American Society of Civil Engineers.

External bonding of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites has become a common way for strengthening concrete members. The performance of the interface between FRP and concrete is one of the key factors affecting the behaviour of the strengthened structure. For this FRP-concrete structure, there are two types of debonding failures: plate end debonding and intermediate crack (IC) induced debonding. This paper presents an analytical solution for the second type debonding failures in FRP-concrete bonded joint model where the FRP plate is subject to tension at both ends. Both the strengthened beam and strengthening FRP are modeled as two linearly elastic Euler-Bernoulli beams bonded together through a thin adhesive layer. The debonding process of the FRP-concrete interface is discussed in detail, and closed-form solutions of bond slip, interface shear stress, and axial force of FRP in different stages are obtained. Parametric studies are further carried out to investigate the effect of the thickness of adhesive layer on the bond behavior of FRP-concrete interface. © (2010) Trans Tech Publications.

According to the Randomized Circle Detection (RCD) algorithm, the circle parameters needed to be calculated four times for each four points sampled randomly. A fast randomized algorithm for detecting circles was presented. If the distance between one point and the boundary of the circle determined by the other three points was bigger than a certain threshold in the process of judging whether the four points could determine a candidate circle, the randomized sampling and computation should be carried on again. The proposed algorithm largely decreased the calculation times of circle parameters by the new threshold. It affirmed the candidate circle for true circle to apply a quick evidence-collecting process. Some synthetic images with different levels of noises and real images were taken to test the performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can detect circles more quickly than RCD, and has a strong robustness.

In order to provide the accurate SOC values of super capacitor for the vehicle control strategy of hybrid electric vehicle which is using the super capacitor, this paper completes the hardware and software design of super capacitor monitoring and control system, gives out the block diagram of the system, the hardware block diagram and the software flow diagram, achieved the measurement of the voltage, current and temperature; analysis the linear relationship between the open circuit voltage and the discharge depth of super capacitor, optimize the SOC estimation method of used the capacitor voltage state. The experimental results show that the voltage detection and the SOC estimated accuracy of the monitoring system better meet the testing requirements. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

This paper presents an efficient randomized Hough transform algorithm for circle detection. It optimizes the methods for determining sample points and finding candidate circles. Due to these two optimizations, sampling validity is improved and many false circles are prevented from being regarded as candidate circles. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm, which features a strong robustness and high resolution, can dramatically speed up circle detection as compared to other algorithms. It can also be applied to detect ellipses. © 2012 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.

This paper proposes a compact microstrip Yagi-Uda antenna for 2.45 GHz radio frequency identification (RFID) handheld reader applications. The proposed antenna is etched on a piece of FR4 substrate with an overall size of 65 mm × 55 mm ×1.6 mm and consists of a microstrip balun, a dipole, and a director. The ground plane is designed to act as a reflector that contributes to enhancing the antenna gain. The measured 10-dB return loss bandwidth and peak gain achieved by the proposed antenna are 380 MHz and 7.5 dBi, respectively. In addition, a parametric study is conducted to facilitate the design and optimization processes for engineers.
