Primulina cordistigma, a new species from Guangdong, China, is illustrated and described. This new species is similar to P. yangchunensis, from which it is distinguished by the leaf blades broadly ovate, 4-5 × 2-3.5 cm, base broadly cuneate to cordate, and margins entire or rarely undulate; the inflorescence a cyme 1-5-flowered; the bracts lanceolate, 3-4 × 0.5-1.0 mm; the corolla tube 0.9-1 cm long; staminodes 3; and the stigma cordate with elliptic lobes covered by shortly puberulent hairs. A conservation category of “Endangered” (EN) according to IUCN Red List Category and Criteria is proposed. Based on plenty of specimens with flowers and field works, the floral morphology of P. yangchunensis, which is the congener of P. cordistigma, is supplemented and emendated here. © 2016 Magnolia Press. Vegetable seed coating method is one of the important measures to improve the quality of seed and commercialization. Meanwhile, the selection of a seed is an important prerequisite for improving the coating effect. This test mainly focuses on researching the proportion of different diameter class seeds, 1000- seed weigh, indoor germination rate. The aim of this paper is to provide theoretical evidence for the selection of seeds. This paper is divided into three parts. Part I introduces the background of writing this paper and the materials and methods needed during testing. A series of 2-oxo-quinoline-3-carbaldehyde Schiff-base derivatives 4a 1-4n2 were designed and synthesized based on the 2-oxo-quinoline structure core as novel antioxidants. In vitro antioxidant activities of these compounds were evaluated and compared with commercial antioxidants ascorbic acid, BHT and BHA, employing DPPH assay, ABTS+ assay, O2 - assay and OH assay. The results showed that IC50 of most compounds were lower than standard value 10 mg/mL, indicating good antioxidant activities of these compounds. In addition, in vitro antioxidant activities screening revealed that 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activities of compounds 4b2, 4e 1, 4e2 and 4g2, 2,2′-azinobis-(3- ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonate) cation (ABTS+) radical scavenging activities of compounds 4a1, 4e1, 4e2, 4f 1, 4f2, 4g1, 4g2, 4h1, 4h2, 4k1, 4k2, 4n1 and 4n 2, superoxide anion radical scavenging activities of 4b1, 4e1, 4f2, 4j1, 4k1, 4k2, 4m1, 4m2, and 4n2, and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity of almost all the compounds except 4f1, 4f 2, 4j2, 4l1 and 4l2 were better than that of the commercial antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). In the course of a chemotaxonomical study of Castanopsis species (Fagaceae), detailed investigation of the leaves of C. sclerophylla led to isolation of three new phenolic compounds together with 62 known compounds. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 2-O-galloyl-O-4,6-(S)- valoneoyl-d-glucose (1), 6-O-galloyl-1-O-vanilloyl-β-d-glucose (2), and 4″-O-galloylchestanin (3) by means of spectroscopic analyses and enzymatic hydrolysis with tannase. Comparison with other Castanopsis species indicated that C. sclerophylla characteristically accumulates chlorogenic acid and a dimeric ellagitannin, rugosin E. Triterpene hexahydroxydiphenoyl esters, which are major constituents of C. cuspidata var. sieboldii, C. hystrix, and C. fissa were not detected. © 2011 Phytochemical Society of Europe. Primulina gongchengensis Y.S. Huang & Yan Liu (Gesneriaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Guangxi, China. It is similar to P. macrodonta, but its leaves are densely glandular-pubescent on both surfaces, with a cuneate or broadly cuneate base and a repand or crenate margin; densely glandular-pubescent petiole and peduncle; purple corolla, with the tube ca. 1.5 cm long, 6-8 mm in diam. at the mouth; ca. 2 mm long, glabrous anthers; 3 staminodes, the lateral ones 1 mm long and the middle one 0.5 mm long; 1.5-1.8 cm long pistil; ca. 4 mm long ovary; and ca. 1 mm long stigma. © Finnish Zoological and Botanical Publishing Board 2012.
