Ti coating was prepared on the surface of diamond grains by the method of vacuum evaporation, and then Ti-coated diamond grains were heated at different temperature respectively. The surface morphology, composition and phase of the coating were detected by SEM, EDS and XRD, and the static compressive strength of the diamonds were tested by the static compressive strength tester for single diamond grain. The results showed that the diamond grains were carbonized at the temperature of 880°C, and Ti coating could react with diamond at the interface. Punctiform TiC coating was generated at the temperature of 880°C, and with the time going on, it grew up into a snowflake shape. However, when the temperature reached 920°C, the Ti coating became gradually oxidized to be TiO; TiC coating can improve the thermal stability and static compressive strength of the diamond grains. Compared with uncoated diamond, the compressive strength of Ti-coated diamonds was increased by 14%. Source

Metal bond matrix samples and diamond segments were respectively prepared by reducing-hot pressing sintering and traditional hot pressed sintering. Their microstructure and macro properties were investigated by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), hardness analyzer, nitrogen/oxygen content analyzer, abrasion ratio testing, etc. The results showed that metal bond matrix samples prepared by two different sinterings had the same phase structure, and a metallurgical bonding was not formed between the low-melting-point Cu-Zn alloy and high-melting-point Fe-Ni alloy. From a macro point, the hardness of metal bond matrix samples prepared by reducing-hot pressing sintering was lower than that prepared by traditional hot pressed sintering, but its bending strength and wear resistance were better. Compared with diamond segments prepared by traditional hot pressed sintering, the holding force of the matrix to diamonds was improved and the thermal deterioration of diamond was reduced under low temperature and low pressure by using reducing-hot pressing sintering technology. Meanwhile, the cost of production and the exhaust emission were decreased by reducing-hot pressing sintering. Our φ350 mm diamond saw blades made by reducing-hot pressing sintering were high-evaluated by foreign and domestic customers. Source

The surface morphology of the Cr-coated diamond processed through ion sputtering with double cathodes at 850 °C were observed by Focused ion beam-Scanning electron microscope thickness. Micro-structure and elements charge on surface of coating has been analyzed by transmission electron microscope and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis tests, together with observation of coatings corroded in acid solution by optical microscope. In this paper, the results of which demonstrate that there is a columnar- shaped coatings of 500 nm thick with grains of 10 nm in diameter after ion sputtering by double cathodes on diamond surface. The fact that a slight drop of coatings happening after acid solution indicates that the Cr-coated has a very compact structure. Source
