Thermostat as a key part of automobile engine requires very high air tightness. The HPDC process of automobile thermostat was simulated, and the vacuum die-casting process was adopted to reduce the gas porosity. In order to reduce shrinkage porosity, the solidification and feeding process were controlled by the compact pin. The defective rate of castings can be reduced from 8.07% to 0.90% finally. According to the manufacturing process of thermostat assembly, the subsequent machining, assembly, detection were described, and countermeasures were presented.

There exist many isolated resonance signal columns in filter mould with deep cavity, resulting in the easy occurrence of cold shut, gas hole and shrinkage porosity in die casting process. Amounts of micro-hole occur in the surface layer of concave column after machining to affect the product function. Through adjusting mould design, die casting parameters and welding repair treatment for the filter cavity, micro-hole is greatly decreased in machined resonance signal column in the mould, increasing the qualified rate of product.
