Through the analysis of lithologic character of Northern Sudan Fu Tendi-senna formation to understand the law of clay expansion hydration. Ammonium chloride drilling fluid was used, and its mechanism was discussed. After tested in FN120, FN108 and FN90 directional wells of Fubei oilfields, the reslut showed that the apparent viscosity of ammonium calcium chloride drilling fluid was 23-27 mPa • s, and ratio of dynamic shea r force was 0.45-0.60 mPa • s/Pa, it had a good capability of hole cleaning for fast and safe drilling; The drilling fluid had a strong inhibition, with cuttings shaped, vibrating screen clean, and drilling fluid solids is easily controled, tripping easily; Requirements, which is for the second Tendi-senna sandstone formation leakage control, is prone to reduce half of the leakage in the surface of FN; It solved the problems of shale hydration expansion and borehole instability in the Fula oilfields Tendi-senna formation, and met the safe, fast drilling requirements.
