(Figure Presented) FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 2-(benzylsulfanyl)-3,5- dinitrobenzoic acid were recorded and analyzed. SERS spectra were recorded in silver colloid, silver electrode and silver substrate. The vibrational wave-numbers were computed using HF and DFT quantum chemical calculation methods. The data obtained from wavenumber calculations are used to assign vibrational bands obtained in infrared and Raman spectra as well as in SERS of the studied molecule. Potential energy distribution was done using GAR2PED program. The geometrical parameters of the title compound are in agreement with the reported similar derivatives. The presence of phenyl ring modes in the SERS spectra suggests a tilted orientation with respect to the metal surface in all cases. In all the three SERS spectra the NO2 moiety shows an enhancement, which indicates the interaction with the metal surface. The first hyperpolarizability is high and the title compound is an attractive object for future studies of nonlinear optics. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Source

This paper presents the application of Hilbert transform and artificial neural network (ANN) for power quality (PQ) disturbance classification. The input features of the ANN are extracted from the envelope of the disturbance signals by applying Hilbert transform (HT). The features obtained from the Hilbert transform are distinct, understandable and immune to noise. These features after normalization are given to the radial basis function (RBF) neural network. The data required to develop the network are generated by simulating various faults in a test system. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the existing feature extraction techniques in combination with other ANN architectures. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method for power quality disturbance classification. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Source

The soil profile in many coastal areas often consists of very loose sandy soil extending to a depth of 3 to 4 m from ground level underlain by clayey soils of medium consistency. The very low shearing resistance of the foundation bed causes local as well as punching shear failure of soil. Structures built on these soils, may also suffer from excessive settlements. This paper discusses grouting as one of the possible solutions to the foundation problems by improving the properties of loose sandy soil at shallow depths. Source

Nanostructures of cadmium sulphide (CdS) have been attracting considerable research interests in electronic device fabrication due to their unique wide band gap (~2.4 eV) and high photosensitivity. Thin-films of CdS nanostructure have huge potential for solar cells, flat-panel displays and light-emitting-diodes. However, lack of a simple and convenient preparation method impedes their wide-spread device development. Here, a facile, efficient and scalable chemical bath deposition technique based preparation of thin films of CdS nanostructure is reported. Utilization of various complexing agents in the reaction mixture provided a unique surface topography to the CdS nanostructures similar to biological objects such as seaweed, coral-reef, and honeycomb. For the first time nanocrystalline, optical absorbance and morphology of three different CdS nanostructures derived from CBD are discussed. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Source

This paper describes the development of response model of flank wear for machining Inconel 718. The machining experiments are conducted based on the design of experiments by varying the cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut as machining parameters against the response flank wear. The performance of uncoated carbide cutting tool was investigated at various cutting conditions under dry machining and refrigerated coolant machining. This paper made an attempt to Taguchi optimization technique to study the machinability performances of Inconel 718. An orthogonal array of L27 was used and anova analysis was carried out to identify the significant factors. The objective of this study is to predict the optimum cutting conditions to minimize the flank wear. Taguchi's optimization analysis indicates that the factors level, its significance to influence the flank wear for the machining processes. Confirmation tests were conducted at an optimal condition to make a comparison between the experimental results foreseen from the mentioned correlations and found satisfactory. © 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l.-All rights reserved.
