2-(5-benzoyl-1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]imidazol-1-yl)acetohydrazide (3) undergoes facile condensation with aromatic aldehydes to afford the corresponding 2-(5-benzoyl-1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]imidazol- 1-yl)-N'-alkylidene aceto hydrazide (4a-d) in good yields. Cyclocondensation of compounds (4ad) with thioglycolic acid yields 3-(2-(5-benzoyl-1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]imidazol-1-yl)acetyl)-2- alkylthiazolidin-4-one (5a-d). The structures of these compounds were established on the basis of analytical and spectral data. All the newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities.

5-Chloromethyl-8-quinolinol hydrochloride was condensed with 1-(2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)propan-2-ol in presence of potassium carbonate. The resulting 5-((1-(2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)propan-2- yloxy)methyl)quinolin-8-ol was characterized by elemental analysis and spectral studies. The transition metal chelates of the same were prepared with Cu 2+, Ni 2+, Co 2+, Mn 2+ and Zn 2+ and characterized by IR and electronic spectral studies and magnetic properties. The antimicrobial activity of ligand and its metal chelates were screened against various gram positive and gram negative organisms. The results show that all these samples are more or less active agents against various organisms.

3-hydroxybenzofuran-2-carbohydrazide (2) undergoes facile condensation with aromatic aldehydes to afford the corresponding N-arylidene-3-hydroxybenzofuran-2-carbohydrazide (3a-d) in good yields. Cyclocondensation of compounds (3a-d) with thioglycolic acid yields 3-hydroxy-N-(4-oxo-2-arylthiazolidin-3-yl)-benzofuran-2- carboxamide (4a-d). The structures of these compounds were established on the basis of analytical and spectral data.
