A new dipicolinate complex of Ru(II), cis-[Ru(phen) 2dipic]9. 5H 2O (1), where dipic is dipicolinate or pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate and phen is 1,10-phenanthroline, has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic (IR, UV-Vis), cyclic voltammetry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. ORTEP drawing of cis-[Ru(phen) 2dipic]9.5H 2O shows that the coordination geometry around Ru(II) is a distorted octahedron. It crystallizes in the triclinic system, with space group P 1, a=10.4633(2)Å, b=13.6332(4)Å, c=13.6637(4)Å, α=67.516(3)°, β=69.757(2)°, γ=77.201(2)°, V=1680.74(8)Å 3, Z=2, and R int=0.0311. In 1, two phen are bidentate N,N ligands. The Ru(II) in 1 is bonded to dipicolinate through pyridine nitrogen and one oxygen of carboxylate groups, thus pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate is a bidentate N,O ligand. Efficient and selective oxidation of alcohols with NaIO 4 as oxidant was conducted by this complex catalyst in CH 3OH/H 2O as solvents under air at room temperature. © 2012 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

In order to detect quantitative trait loci (QTLs) controlling blast resistance, mapping population of 192 F2:3 families derived from the cross of two Iranian rice varieties Tarom Mahalli (TAM) an blast-susceptible cultivar and the blast resistance cultivar, Khazar (KHZ) were developed. A SSR linkage map covering 1231.50cM of rice was constructed using 74 polymorphic SSR markers. In total, seven independent QTLs were detected through composite interval mapping to be associated with resistance against field blast on chromosomes 1, 3, 4, 5 and 11. Theses QTLs explained relatively high phenotypic variance of blast resistance and could be considered to use in marker assisted selection (MAS) programs for improving aromatic and susceptible varietyies.

The reaction between dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates and NH heterocyclic compounds in the presence of trialkyl phosphite leads to stable phosphorus ylide derivatives in good yields. The x-ray crystallographic data and theoretical study show that there is a resonance between two bonds of C9 P 1 and C91 O91 in phosphorous ylide 4c. This compound crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group (P 1), with the following unit cell parameters: a = 8.7522(3)Å, b= 8.8513(5)Å, c = 18.3469(5)Å, α = 99.1220(10)°, β = 90.954(2)°, γ = 118.792(2)°, Z = 2, and V = 1222.72(9) Å3. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

1. The objective was to estimate heritability, genetic and phenotypic correlations for egg quality traits of Iranian native fowl at the Yazd Breeding Centre. External and internal egg quality traits were measured on 1200 eggs from 794 hens of the 6th generation. A multivariate animal model with restricted maximum likelihood procedure was applied to estimate heritability, genetic and phenotypic correlations for egg quality traits using ASREML. Heritability estimates for external egg quality traits ranged from 0-18 to 0-57 and for internal egg quality traits from 0-24 to 0-60. For external egg quality traits, genetic correlation between egg weight and eggshell thickness (EST) was positive (0-36) and EST showed high genetic correlations with eggshell weight (0-84) and eggshell strength (0-55). This implies that heavier eggs tend to have thicker and stronger shells. For internal egg quality traits, albumen height showed high positive genetic correlations with albumen weight (0-52), albumen index (0-98), yolk height (0-72) and yolk index (0-57). Our results show that it is feasible to improve egg quality in Iranian fowl through selection for albumen height. © 2010 British Poultry Science Ltd.
