Traditionally, researchers tend to exclude fluorescence from color appearance algorithms in computer vision and image processing because of its complexity. In reality, fluorescence is a very common phenomenon observed in many objects, from gems and corals, to different kinds of writing paper, and to our clothes. In this paper, we provide detailed theories of fluorescence phenomenon. In particular, we show that the color appearance of fluorescence is unaffected by illumination in which it differs from ordinary reflectance. Moreover, we show that the color appearance of objects with reflective and fluorescent components can be represented as a linear combination of the two components. A linear model allows us to separate the two components using images taken under unknown illuminants using independent component analysis (ICA). The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using digital images of various fluorescent objects. © 2013 IEEE.

Systems and methods for efficiently absorbing, archiving, and distributing any size data sets are provided. Some embodiments provide flexible, policy-based distribution of high volume data through real time streaming as well as past data replay. In addition, some embodiments provide for a foundation of solid and unambiguous consistency across any vendor system through advanced version features. This consistency is particularly valuable to the financial industry, but also extremely useful to any company that manages multiple data distribution points for improved and reliable data availability.

Some embodiments include a system, method, apparatus and means for identifying and extracting information include generating a list of information sources, each selected as having information potentially relevant to a topic, the list of information sources including sources of at least a first type and sources of a second type, retrieving first information from an information source of the at least first type and determining that the first information is relevant to the topic, monitoring the information source of the at least first type to identify a change in the first information, and retrieving updated information from the information source of the at least first type upon identifying the change.

Apparatus, methods and articles of manufacture for n-tier transaction execution and processing are shown. The first layer comprises a presentation layer in the form of a user interface for entering instrument orders, modifying orders, and monitoring orders, instruments and markets. The second layer comprises an intermediate component layer for information transfer, and the third layer comprises an information source layer for feeding information to and accepting information from the first two layers.
