An efficient, mild, and environmental friendly method has been developed for the synthesis of dicoumarols in water over Lewis and Bronsted acid catalyst sulfated titania (TiO 2/SO 4 2-). The method involves the condensation of various aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes with 4-hydroxycoumarin. It affords the corresponding product in high yield with short reaction times employing a very low loading of catalyst. Heating of o-acetoxybenzoyl azides 6-10 in toluene leads to the Curtius reaction, which, when followed by closure of oxazolone ring with concomitant migration of acetyl group from oxygen to nitrogen, produces 3-acetoxybenz[d] oxazol-2(3H)-ones 11-15, which undergo hydrolysis with hot dilute hydrochloric acid to furnish benz[d]oxazol-2(3H)-ones 17-21. Thermal reaction of 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzoyl azide (22) in toluene finally yields a mixture of 5-nitrobenz[d]oxazol-2(3H)-one (20) and 5-nitrobenz[d]isoxazol-3(2H)-one (23). An atom-efficient, one-pot, three-component synthetic methodology has been developed for the preparation of α-aminophosphonates using the crystalline CuO- nanopowder as catalyst in solvent-free and ambient conditions, for the first time. The reaction involves the use of carbonyl compounds, amines and trimethyl phosphite. A wide range of substrates is compatible in this reaction, producing excellent yields in short time. The method involves the assembly of ethyl acetoacetate, hydrazine hydrate, different aldehydes, and malononitrile. It affords the corresponding product in high yield with short reaction times, while employing a very low loading of catalyst. The polarized Raman spectra in different environments along with the IR counterpart of 4-benzoylpyridine (4-BOP) were critically analyzed to assign all of its normal modes of vibration. The knowledge of the positions of different excited electronic states (EESs)was obtained from the study of electronic absorption spectra. Measurement of Raman excitation profiles (REPs)of several normal modes was carried out to get insight into structural and symmetry properties of the molecule. All the experimental observations were substantiated and corroborated theoretically by quantum chemical calculations (QCCs). The possibility of exciton splitting of the 1L a band has been explored both from theoretical and experimental points of view. Vibrational and electronic spectra of 4-benzoylpyridine molecule were critically explored and Raman excitation profile studies of several normal modes of vibration carried out to get insights into the structural and symmetry properties of the molecule in the ground and excited electronic states. Possibility of exciton splitting of 1L a band has been found. All the experimental observations are substantiated and corroborated with the necessary quantum chemical calculations.
