Six complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) with one tetradentate azodye ligand and six complexes of above metal ions with one octadentate azodye ligand have been synthesized. All the twelve complexes have been characterised by analytical, conductance, magnetic susceptibility, IR, electronic spectra, E.S.R., NMR, thermogravimetric analysis and XRD powder pattern spectra. In addition to this molecular modelling study of the ligands and complexes has been made. The Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes are found to be octahedral, Cu(II) complexes are distorted octahedral and a tetrahedral stereochemistry has been assigned to Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II)complexes. The antibacterial study of the ligands and six complexes is made against gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli. © 2014 Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Union of Chemists in Bulgaria.

Twelve complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) with two octadentate oxygen - nitrogen donor azodye ligands have been prepared. The characterization of the complexes has been made basing upon analytical, conductance, magnetic susceptibility, IR, electronic spectra ESR, NMR, thermo gravimetric, X-ray diffraction data and molecular modeling. The Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes are found to be octahedral, Cu(II) complexes are distorted octahedral and a tetrahedral stereochemistry has been attributed to Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) complexes. All the complexes are found to be tetrameric in nature. The antibacterial study of the ligands and some complexes against E.coli and S.aureus has been made.

Attempts have been made to enhance the conversion efficiency of photoelectrochemical cell using electrolytically deposited ZnSe semiconductor electrode in iodide-triiodide electrolytes. The performance parameters of the cell include measurements of photocurrent, photovoltage, fill factor, cell efficiency, flat band potential, band gap energy and stability. CdSe electrode material when mixed with ZnSe could enhance the performance of the photoelectrochemical cell.

CdS, CdSe and mixed CdS-CdSe thin film electrodes have been prepared electrochemically for their use in photoelectrochemical cells. These films were obtained on clean Nickel substrates. Mixed CdS-CdSe semiconductor electrode was prepared by dipping electrode in an aqueous solution of sodium selenosulphite(Na2SeSO3).The conversion efficiency of the PEC cell could be enhance by adding thymol blue as sensitizer to the S-2/Se-2 redox electrolytes.
