The structure and properties of high-alloy chromium steels, used in the manufacture of equipment, working in the conditions of erosion caused by cavitation, are analysed. The compositions and the mechanical properties of steels in the equipment for hydraulic turbines and circulation pumps of reactor systems are determined. The particulars of the design of new-generation ASCTP and experience in implementing the system in the No. 3 unit of the Kalininskaya nuclear power plant are examined. The basic requirements and the main approaches for developing ASCTP for the power-generating units of nuclear power plants with newgeneration VVER, including protection from failures for general reasons in the safety control systems, expansion of the functions of the system of the top block level, intellectually signaling, automation level of technological processes, and servicing of the means of automation are presented. It is noted that the principle of optimizing the application of modern information technologies taking account of experience in design and operation of power-generating units with mandatory maintenance of the updated base must play an important role in determining the requirements for and making technical decisions concerning ASCTP for new-generation VVER. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.

The high conservativeness of the evaluation of the service life of VVER-1000 vessels is due to the operational reliability margin and the high error in determining the initial computational data. A structural analysis of the error in critical brittleness temperature investigations is presented and the factors which have a large effect on the error in constructing the dose-time dependences of the critical brittleness temperature are determined. In constructing dose-time curves, the use of the critical temperature of a calibration metal and heat-treatment regimes of calibration samples makes available and permits checking a wide range of structures that is characteristic for large blanks, makes it possible to take account of radiation embrittlement effects and radiation-stimulated reversible brittleness, decrease the error in determining the guaranteed values to T cr±5°C, and eliminate the large effect of structural nonuniformity on objective predictions made for a reactor vessel. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.

Information is presented on the development of the main equipment of the BN-1200 advanced reactor facility: first- and second-loop main circulation pumps, intermediate heat exchanger, actuation mechanism of the cold filter-trap control and protection system, autonomous and air heat exchangers, steam generator. The approach to the development of the equipment is based on maximum use of the experience gained in operating BN-350 and -600 as well as experience in developing the BN-800 design, which gives a basis for ensuring reliable operation of the BN-1200 equipment. New solutions for improving the technical-economic indicators and increasing the safety of a power-generating unit, whose validation required R&D work, are examined at the same time. © 2010 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.

Measurements of the propagation velocity of small perturbations of the neutron flux along the height of the core of a VK-50 boiling water vessel reactor are presented. The method of measurement is based on the evaluation of the delay time of a signal between the axially positioned sensitive elements of a moving double direct-charge detector. The measurements are compared with calculations for the parameters of two-phase coolant in the measurement channels. It is shown that the agreement between the measurements and the calculations is best for the velocity of an interphase surface. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.

Problems of designing chemical and oil and gas equipment components are reviewed. The efficiency of equipment depends a great deal on how adequately the design parameters of its components (assemblies and individual parts) have been taken into account in the mathematical model. This issue acquires special importance when designing articles consisting of a large number of components (units) integrated into a system where the behavior of any component depends on other components. In this regard, one cannot restrict oneself to the scrutiny of one individual component, but must scrutinize all components of the system. Not infrequently, the dimension of the problem to be solved by mathematical modeling is so huge that the available resources (power) of the computer are not enough to get an acceptable solution. In that situation, it will be judicious to use in the mathematical model supercomponents that allow one to get a solution of large problems on computers with limited resources. The example of substantiation of the efficiency of FPL-type dust trap filter, cited in this article, illustrates the effectiveness of application of mathematical modeling using supercomponents for solving problems associated with designing of chemical and oil and gas equipment. The problems are solved with the aid of ANSYS finite-element program. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
