Chipped stem wood from Lindera glauca was extracted repeatedly with 80% aqueous methanol at room temperature, and the concentrated methanolic extract was successively partitioned with ethyl acetate (EtOAc), n-butyl alcohol, and H2O. From the EtOAc fraction, four sterols were isolated through a repeated silica gel and octadecyl silica gel column chromatography. The chemical structures of the sterols were elucidated as β-sitosterol (1), 7-ketositosterol (2), 7β-hydroxysitosterol (3), and daucosterol (4). Among them, compounds 2 and 3 were isolated for the first time from the stem woods of this plant. Source

The extraction and solvent partition of cornstalks, and repeated column chromatography for EtOAc fraction yielded four phenolic compounds, methyl (Z)-p-coumarate (1), methyl (E)-p-coumarate (2), methyl ferulate (3), and 1,3-O-diferuloyl glycerol (4). The chemical structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic data analyses including NMR, MS, and IR. All compounds were isolated for the first time from the cornstalks. Compounds 1, 2, and 4 were evaluated for inhibition activity on NO production in lipopolysaccharide -induced RAW 264.7 cells, neuroprotective activity on glutamate-induced cell death in HT22 cells, and hepatoprotective activity on t-BHP-induced oxidative stress in HepG2 cells. Compounds 2 and 4 showed inhibitory effects on NO production with the IC50 values of 19.29 and 5.62 μM, respectively, and compound 4 showed protective effect on glutamate-induced cell death and t-BHP-induced oxidative stress with EC50 values of 19.51 and 71.29 μM, respectively. © 2014 The Korean Society for Applied Biological Chemistry. A new flavonolignan glucoside, tricin-4′-O-(erythro-β- guaiacylglyceryl)ether 9′′-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (9′′-O-glucopyranosyl salcolin B), was isolated from the aerial parts of Oryza sativa L. From the heartwood of Lindera glauca Blume three new diarylpropanoids have been isolated and identified, which were named lindeglaucol, lindeglaucone, and lindeglaucoside A. Chipped heartwood was extracted repeatedly with 80% aqueous methanol (MeOH) at room temperature, and the concentrated methanolic extract was successively partitioned with ethyl acetate (EtOAc), n -butanol, and H 2O. From the EtOAc fraction, three new diarylpropanoids and a known chalconoid were isolated through repeated column chromatography with silica gel, octadecyl silica gel, and Sephadex LH-20. The chemical structures of the compounds were elucidated by interpretation of extensive spectroscopic data such as nuclear magnetic resonance, fast atom bombardment mass spectroscopy, and infrared.
