The basalt of Woniusi Formation is distributed extensively in Shidian area, Yunnan Province. It was thought previously that this basalt belonged to explosive littoral-neritic facies. During the field work in recent years, the authors found that sedimentary intercalations are missing in basalt of Woniusi Formation. And that the basalt is similar to Emei Shan basalts in petrology and geochemistry and has some characteristics of terrestrial extrusive facies. Source

There are a few outcrops of Cambrian strata in Baoshan block, and hence researches in this aspect are limited. Controversy has long existed over the contact relationship between Cambrian and Ordovician strata. Some hold the opinion of conformable contact, others argue for pseudoconformity, and due to the insufficient work, no final conclusion has been reached. During the 1:50000 regional survey performed in Shidian area of Baoshan City, the authors found that Ordovician strata are commonly missing in this area, and Middle Ordovician strata only exist in Banpo area of Shidian. In Dazhai area, Middle-Upper Ordovician Pupiao Formation overlies Upper Cambrian Baoshan Formation in parallel unconformity. In combination with the existent Late Cambrain-Early Ordovician magmatic activities, the authors hold that these phenomena represent the long-distance response to Late Pan-African movement. Source

The Late Paleozoic strata are extensively exposed in Baoshan massif of western Yunnan. Research work has been relatively in detail and, as a result, many achievements have been obtained. However, the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary was previously considered to be of pseudoconformity contact. In recent years, through 1:50000 regional geological survey in Shidian area, we collected a large number of Famennian-Tournaisian conodonts in upper Heyuanzhai Formation which was previously assigned to Middle-Late Devonian and confirmed that the sequence of sedimentary facies between Heyuanzhai Formation and overlying Xiangshan Formation is a gradual transition relationship. Therefore, the authors propose for the first time that the Devonian-Carboniferous contact relationship is conformable contact, and this result will provide the latest information for the tectonic evolution of Baoshan massif.
