The description of cuttings is an important procedure in oil logging, and the digitization of cuttings' description is a tendency for modern oil logging. A cuttings recognition system based on a linear CCD combined with a micro lens is introduced in this paper. To obtain clear images, the optimal configuration of the system was determined through designing the control program of linear CCD and adjusting parameters of the CCD and the micro lens. Image processing software was developed with the functions of background-removing, edge-extraction, feature-extraction and classification. As such, the digitization of cuttings' description has been realized. With this developed system, the cuttings' lithology category has been well described with an average recognition rate about 95%. The obtained results suggest that the digital compact system has great potential to be used in oil field logging.

Cutting identification is one of the most important links in the course of cutting logging which is very significant in the process of oil drilling. In the present paper, LIBS was used for identification of four kinds of cutting samples coming from logging field, and then multivariate analysis was used in data processing. The whole spectra model and the feature model were built for cuttings identification using PLS-DA method. The accuracy of the whole spectra model was 88.3%, a little more than the feature model with an accuracy of 86.7%. While in the aspect of data size, the variables were decreased from 24041 to 27 by feature extraction, which increased the efficiency of data processing observably. The obtained results demonstrate that LIBS combined with chemometrics method could be developed as a rapid and valid approach to cutting identification and has great potential to be used in logging field.

In PUTAOHUA formation oil set at Pubei oil field, die change of reservoir physical property on plane was controlled by sedimentary microfacies. The effect of common layering and log interpretation model widiout classifying sedimentary microfacies was not ideal . In view of this characteristics, this paper established interpretation models for porosity and permeability which were constrained by different sedimentary microfacies,which are built on the basis of the correlation of four reservoir parameters. By using the interpretation models, 267 wells in this area are reinterpreted , the result shows that the interpretation models based on different sedimentary microfacies have higher accuracy, and reliable parameters are provided for geologic modeling and remaining oil tapping.
