Exploitation of minerals in Republic of Croatia has been intensified during last 15 years, especially in mineral ores related to construction works. According to the Law on Mining (NN 2009), concession holders are obliged to prepare a survey of the mine site at least once a year, with the goal of determination of excavated material. This paper describes surveying methods related to determination of volumes of sand and gravel taken from a lake. Different methods of data processing are compared with respect to the accuracy. The Lake Novo Čiče is an artificial ecosystem used for exploitation of sand and gravel. Bathymetric measurements of the lake bottom has been performed using the integration of modern surveying methods: GPS positioning and echosounder for depth measurements. Two series of measurements have been used for comparison. A threedimensional model of the lake has been created. Several methods of interpolation are used and differences were compared. The volume of the lake has been determined by various algorithms, implemented in modern software packages.
