Rationale and objective: To synthesize the available data to underscore the diagnostic accuracy of dualsource CT (DSCT) coronary angiography in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Materials and methods: We searched in the electronic databases of PubMed for all published studies that examined patients with AF using DSCT. We used an exact binomial rendition of the bivariate mixed-effects regression model to synthesize the diagnostic data. Results: The positive and negative likelihood ratios (LRs) at the patient level were 6.0 (CI, 3.6-10.1) and 0.03(CI, 0.004-0.2), respectively. The negative predictive values higher than 90% were available for a CAD prevalence <78%. The pooled vessel- and segment-level estimates showed higher positive and negative LRs than the patient-level estimates (15.3 [CI, 9.8-23.9] and 0.1 [CI, 0.07-0.3]; 25.1 [CI, 10.8-58.5] and 0.2 [CI, 0.2-0.3], respectively). No statistically significant heterogeneity between studies and publication bias were found at the patient level estimate. A sensitivity analysis showed that no study influenced the pooled results larger than 0.02. Conclusions: Cardiac angiography with DSCT can be applied as an imaging test for ruling out CAD in patient with AF. However, DSCT angiography may be not an effective tool for risk stratification for the high negative LR at the artery and segment levels. © 2013 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Source

To explore the feasibility of in vitro chondrogenesis by co-culture of chondrocytes and adipose-derived stromal cells (ADSCs) so as to confirm the hypothesis that chondrocytes can provide chondrogenic microenvironment to induce chondrogenic differentiation of ADSCs. Human ADSCs and porcine auricular chondrocytes were in vitro expanded respectively and then were mixed at the ratio of 7:3 (ADSCs: chondrocytes). 200 microl mixed cells (5.0 x 10(7)/ml) were seeded onto a polyglycolic acid/polylactic acid (PGA/PLA) scaffold, 8 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness, as co-culture group. Chondrocytes and ADSCs with the same cell number were seeded respectively onto the scaffold as positive control group and negative control group. 200 microl chondrocytes (1.5 x 10(7)/ml) were seeded as low concentration chondrocyte group. There were 6 specimens in each group. All specimens were harvested after in vitro culture for 8 weeks in DMEM plus 10% FBS. Gross observation, histology, immunohistochemistry, wet weight measurement and glycosaminoglycan (GAG) quantification were used to evaluate the results. Multiple-sample t-test statistics analysis was done to compare the difference of wet weight and glycosaminoglycan(GAG) content between the groups. Cells in all groups had fine adhesion to the scaffold and could secrete extracellular matrix. In co-culture group and positive control group, cell-scaffold constructs could maintain the original size and shape during in vitro culture. At 8 weeks, cartilage-like tissue formed in gross appearance and histological features, and abundant type II collagen could be detected by immunohistochemistry. Wet weight and glycosaminoglycan(GAG) content of co-culture group were respectively (174 +/- 12) mg and (7.6 +/- 0.4) mg. There were respectively 75% (P < 0.01) and 79% (P<0.01) of those of positive control group. In negative control group, however, constructs shrunk gradually without mature cartilage lacuna in histology. In low concentration chondrocyte group, constructs also shrunk obviously with small amount of cartilage formation at the edge area of the construct, and wet weight was (85 +/- 5) mg, which was 37% (P<0.01) of that of positive control group. Chondrocytes can provide chondrogenic microenvironment to induce chondrogenic differentiation of ADSCs and thus promote the in vitro chondrogenesis of ADSCs. Source

Objective To analyze the characteristics of Chinese military health forces use in earthquake medical rescue, so as to provide experience for improving medical support capabilities of military health forces. Methods The data about medical rescue efforts of military health forces in Wenchuan and Yushu earthquakes were collected on the basis of field research. The relevant military documents, materials and literature were reviewed. And descriptive analysis was then performed. Results Chinese military health forces carries out the medical rescue efforts with the following characteristics, rapid forces grouping and flexible forces deployment. Conclusions Military health forces should meet the medical and health demands of the stricken area. The medical forces should be grouped and deployed rapidly, sufficiently and totally. The diversified forces should be mixing organized. The forces should be deployed by integration and modularization. © 2014 Editorial Board of Chin J Evid-based Med. Source

Ferric uptake regulator A of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), which belongs to the Fur superfamily, is situated immediately upstream of katG encoding catalase-peroxidase, a major virulence factor that also activates the pro-drug isoniazid. The feature and role of FurA in oxidative stress contribute to research on the pathogenesis of mycobacteria. In this study, four novel mouse monoclonal antibodies were generated using the prokaryotically expressed FurA protein as immunogen. The furA gene of M. tuberculosis H37Rv was inserted into a bacterial expression vector of pRSET-A and effectively expressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3). The expressed fusion protein existed as soluble form in cell lysates and was purified via Ni-NTA purification system. Using the fusion protein to immunize BALB/c mice, four monoclonal antibodies (H9H6, H9E12, H10H6, and H10H8) were produced. As shown by Western blot analysis and cell fluorescence microscopy assay, the four antibodies could recognize the FurA protein, respectively. Then we assessed the effect of iron on the expression of FurA in MTB H37Rv and we concluded that iron does not affect FurA expression. These results suggest that the antibodies against FurA may provide a powerful tool for elucidating FurA biofunctions and regulation mechanism in the pathogenesis of tuberculosis. © Copyright 2011, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. The toxic and repellent activities of the essential oil extracted from the leaves of Atalantia guillauminii Swingle were evaluated against three stored product insects, red flour beetles (Tribolium castaneum), cigarette beetles (Lasioderma serricorne) and booklice (Liposcelis bostrychophila). The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation was investigated by GC-MS. The main constituents of the essential oil were β-thujene (27.18%), elemicin (15.03%), eudesma-3, 7(11)-diene (9.64%), followed by (-)-4-terpeniol (6.70%) and spathulenol (5.25%). The crude oil showed remarkable contact toxicity against T. castaneum, L. serricorne adults and L. bostrychophila with LD50 values of 17.11, 24.07 μg/adult and 55.83 μg/cm2 respectively and it also displayed strong fumigant toxicity against T. castaneum, L. serricorne adults with LC50 values of 17.60 and 12.06 mg/L respectively, while weak fumigant toxicity against L. bostrychophila with a LC50 value of 16.75 mg/L. Moreover, the essential oil also exhibited the same level repellency against the three stored product insects, relative to the positive control, DEET. At the same concentrations, the essential oil was more repellent to T. castaneum than to L. serricorne. Thus, the essential oil of A. guillauminii may be potential to be developed as a new natural fumigant/repellent in the control of stored product insects. © 2015 by Japan Oil Chemists’ Society. Source
