Information representing physical parameters associated with the entity or process is sensed. The sensed information is collected into a current pattern or into a current sequence of patterns. The current pattern or current sequence of patterns is compared to historical data in order to obtain a population of best matches. A plurality of kernel regression models is created based upon the population of best matches. At least one distribution of estimate values is generated for a sensor of interest using the plurality of kernel regression models. The at least one distribution of the estimate values is analyzed for a sensor of interest to obtain a measure of the center of the at least one estimate distribution and a measure of the width of the at least one estimate distribution.


A system for coupling a modulated voltage signal onto a current loop between a host device and a field device, in various embodiments, can include a circuit and an impedance bridge. The circuit is configured to flow current from the field device between two terminals of an input circuit in the host device, wherein the two terminals are included in the current loop. The impedance bridge is positioned between the two terminals and configured to modulate impedance to convert the current in a field loop produced by the field device into terminal voltage modulation, without introducing a DC voltage burden to the current.

An apparatus and corresponding methods for transmitting secure communications includes a transmitter and a receiver having an interface, a processor, and a memory. The transmitter processor instances a secure transmission function as needed and links program data to the secure transmission function. The transmitter processor determines a transmission channel that does not have to satisfy security requirements to transmit the program data and the secure transmission functions. The transmitter transmits the program data and the secure transmission function across the transmission channel to the receiver, where the receiver processor instances a secure reception function corresponding to the secure transmission function and specifies a connection between a communication receiver path. The processor attaches a data output to the secure reception function corresponding to the data programmed into the transmitter. The receiver processor executes and compares the reception function to the transmission function to determine if the linked data should be sent to an output of the receiver interface to be used by an external system.


An input signal, including a process signal modulated with a sinusoidal signal, is converted from analog form to digital form. The converted input signal is filtered through a first programmable digital filter to extract the process signal. The converted input signal is filtered through a second programmable digital filter to extract the sinusoidal signal. A binary data signal is created based on the extracted sinusoidal signal.

A system and method according to various embodiments can include a universal contact input status detection circuit. A voltage source wets a contact with a wetting voltage. A current mirror circuit is connected across an input of the contact to provide a constant wetting current over a wide input voltage range. The input voltage can be varied over a range wide enough to include both AC voltages and DC voltages. The current mirror circuit maintains the constant wetting current during varying wetting voltage inputs across the input of the contact. A wetting voltage sensor senses the wetting voltage provided to the contact so that the status of the contact can be determined.
