A belt having an elastomeric body, a tensile cord embedded therein, and a tooth fabric having an increased value of Fabric Tensile Toughness as defined herein. The Fabric Tensile Toughness may be derived from properties of the yarns making up the fabric, such as yarn linear density, yarn ultimate elongation, yarn tensile strength, yarn packing density and weave ratio. The Fabric Tensile Toughness may be greater than 60 mJ/mm^(2). The belt may be a toothed belt of cast polyurethane with carbon fiber tensile cord. Also disclosed is a method of improving a known tooth cover fabric for a toothed power transmission belt involving selecting a different fabric having a higher Fabric Tensile Toughness than the known fabric and orienting the different fabric so the direction of highest Fabric Tensile Toughness is oriented in the longitudinal direction of the belt.

A belt with a tensile cord embedded in an elastomeric body, having an adhesive composition impregnating the cord and coating the fibers. The adhesive composition is the reaction product of a polyisocyanate and a polyol, or a polyurethane prepolymer derived therefrom, and a polyamine curative and optionally additional polyol, and with optionally added plasticizer. At least one of the polyisocyanate, the prepolymer, and the polyamine are blocked with a blocking agent. The belt body may be of cast polyurethane, vulcanized rubber, or thermoplastic elastomer. The cord may have an adhesive overcoat.

A method for managing a fluid conduit life cycle comprising inputting a fluid conduit parameter into an operating system, selecting a fluid conduit compatible with the fluid conduit parameter from an inventory data base accessible by the operating system, assigning an identifier to the fluid conduit, assigning a user parameter to the fluid conduit whereby a status can be determined according to the user parameter, selecting a limit for the user parameter, fixing the identifier to the fluid conduit with an interrogatable device, detecting the identifier from the interrogatable device using a detector, transmitting the identifier to the operating system, detecting the user parameter and transmitting it to the operating system, and reporting to a user a life cycle status using the identifier and the user parameter.

An endless rubber power transmission belt such as a CVT belt having a main belt body with a compression portion, tension portion, an adhesion portion, and a tensile cord in contact with the adhesion portion and embedded between the compression portion and the tension portion, angled sides, and a width to thickness ratio on the order of 2 to 3. At least one of the compression portion, the tension portion and the adhesion portion has an elastomer composition that includes a saturated ethylene-alpha-olefin elastomer, a staple fiber, and a pulp fiber, or an elastomer, a high-modulus staple fiber, and a high-modulus pulp fiber. The pulp fiber constitutes less than 40% of the total high-modulus fiber amount.

One or both ends of the spring may be engaged in respective pockets.

This disclosure describes systems and methods which utilize organoclays compounded with zinc acrylates to improve the performance of drive belts. In performing research on organoclays, the inventors created formulations and methods of compatibilizing organoclays with metal salts of --unsaturated organic acids and incorporating the compatibilized organoclays into the belt compound so that the planar organoclay particles are substantially aligned with the longitudinal plane of the belt. This is shown to provide a) lower Mooney viscosity (resulting in greater ease of processing), b) higher stiffness (both tensile and dynamic) c) improved tear resistance, d) lower crack growth rate and e) nearly equivalent fatigue resistance in spite of the increased stiffness. This combination of traits in the belts created utilizing the organoclay/zinc acrylate technology described herein results in an unexpectedly improved belt.

A fluid conduit heating system comprises a semiconductive sleeve disposed over a fluid conduit and an electrical power supply coupled to the ends of the sleeve to provide a voltage across the sleeve and a resulting current through the semiconductive sleeve, heating the sleeve and conduit Alternatively, one terminal of the electrical power supply is coupled to each end of the sleeve or conduit, and another terminal of the electrical power supply is coupled to the sleeve or conduit therebetween, to provide parallel heating circuits.
