In the presence of FeCl3 reaction of alkenols with iodine resulted in intramolecular addition of hydroxyl to alkenol to produce a wide range of iodocyclic ethers in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. The advantages of our procedure include a decreased amount of iodine as well as short reaction times. The broad scope, mild reaction conditions, and experimental ease of this transformation have made it a valuable alternative to current available methods for the preparation of iodocyclic ethers. © 2017 Chinese Chemical Society & SIOC, CAS.

KGd(WO4)2: Eu3+ red phosphors were prepared by sol-gel method. The properties of the resulting phosphors were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, excitation spectra, emission spectra and decay curve. The excitation spectra of KGd(WO4)2: Eu3+ phosphors were mainly attributed to WO4 2- and Eu-O charge-transfer band at about 270 nm, and some sharp lines were also attributed to Eu3+ f-f transitions in near-UV regions with the strongest peaks at 395 nm. Under the 395 nm excitation, the intense red emission peak at 614 nm were observed for 40%(atom fraction) KGd(WO4)2: Eu3+ phosphors as the optimum dopant concentration. The strongest line (395 nm) in excitation spectra of these phosphors matched well with the output wavelength of UV InGaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) chip. The luminescent properties suggested that KGd(WO4)2: Eu3+ phosphor might be regarded as a potential red phosphor candidate for near-UV LEDs.

NaGd(WO4)2:Eu3+ (hereafter NGW:Eu) red-phosphors were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method at different pH value. X-ray power diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectra (EDS), photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra and decay curve were used to characterize the NGW:Eu phosphors. It was found that the pH value has a crucial effect on synthesis of the scheelite structure NGW:Eu. The intense red emission is obtained by exciting into the 5L6 state with 395 nm, which corresponds to the popular emission line from near-UV LED chips. The values of Ω2,4 experimental intensity parameters (14.9 × 10-20 and 5.6 × 10-20 cm2) are determined. The high emission quantum efficiency and suitable color coordination of the NGW:Eu phosphor suggest the material could be a promising red phosphor for generating white light in phosphor-converted white light emitting diodes (WLEDs). © 2010 Elsevier B.V. Eu 3+-doped La 2(WO 4) 3 phosphors were synthesized by a hydrothermal method with further heat treatment. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) were used to characterize the resulting samples of crystal phase structure, particle size and morphology and composition. Photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra and decay curve were used to characterize the fluorescence properties of phosphors. XRD analysis confirmed that the precursors and as-prepared sample (900°C for 2 h) were α-La 2W 2O 9 with triclinic structure and La 2(WO 4) 3 with monoclinic structure, respectively. The results show that La 2 (WO 4) 3:Eu phosphor exhibits intensive red emission under 395 nm excitation. The strongest line (395 nm) in excitation spectra of these phosphors matches with the output wavelength of UV InGaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) chip. Hence, it is considered to be a new promising phosphor for generating white light devices.

MWO 4:Sm 3+ (M = Ca, Sr and Ba) red phosphors with spherical microparticles were successfully prepared via a mild and facile hydrothermal route. The crystal structure and particle morphology were investigated by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. Photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra and decay curve were used to characterize the luminescence properties of the MWO 4:Sm 3+ phosphors. The excitation spectra indicate that MWO 4:Sm 3+ phosphors can be excited effectively by the UV InGaN light-emitting diode (LED), and the emission spectra show that the phosphors can emit strong red light from 600 to 650 nm. Therefore, it is considered to be a new promising red phosphor for white LED application. © 2011 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.

The FeCl3-mediated reaction of alkynols with iodine resulted in intramolecular addition of hydroxyl to alkyne to produce a wide range of iodocycloenol ethers in good to excellent yields (63%∼90%) under mild reaction conditions. On the other hand, 1,2-diiodides were obtained generally in good yields (15%∼88%) when propargyl alcohols were reacted with iodine in the same condition. The advantages of our procedure include a decreased amount of iodine (0.5 equiv.) as well as short reaction time (3 h). The broad scope, mild reaction conditions, and experimental ease of this transformation have made it a valuable alternative to current available methods for the preparation of iodocycloenol ethers or 2,3-diiodoalkenols.
