We have designed solar cells based on nanostructured titanium dioxide sensitized by fluorescein sodium salt, and we have studied their photovoltaic and impedance characteristics. Under AM1.5 illumination and optimal conditions, an open-circuit photovoltage of 0.56 V and a short-circuit current density of 72 μA/cm2 were achieved. An impedance spectroscopy study of the voltage dependence of the capacitance in the frequency range 2-5 kHz did not reveal any shift from positive to negative capacitance. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Nemrut Crater lake is the world's second largest and largest of Turkey crater lake and its altitude is 2250 m. The aim of this study is to determine radioactivity levels of the lake surface water. In this study water samples were collected from 33 points of the lake surface. The gross alpha and gross beta activity concentrations were determined by using ultra low level α/β counter. The mean gross alpha and beta activity concentrations were found to be 77.69 mBqL-1 and 115.36 mBqL-1 respectively. Contour maps were produced for gross alpha and beta concentrations of the lake.

Couples of AISI 304L and AISI 1040 steels were welded using the continuous-drive friction-welding process. The welded joints were manufactured using three different rotational speeds ((1300, 1500 and 1700) r/min), three different frictional pressures and three different frictional times. To determine microstructural changes, the interface regions of the welded samples were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS). Microhardness and tensile tests of the welded samples were conducted. The results show that the properties of the microstructures are significantly changed and the interface temperature increased with the frictional time. An excellent tensile strength was observed for the joint made at a rotational speed of 1700r/min and a frictional time of 4 s.

The objective of the current study was to evaluate the effects of different levels (1.5, 3.0, 4.5 g/kg) of organic acid mixture (OAM) (60% formic acid, 20% propionic acid, and 20% soft acid) supplementation in the diets of laying hens on egg production, egg quality parameters, and intestinal histomorphology. Seventy-two Lohman strains of layers (26-week-old) were divided into four treatment groups. The hens were fed either a control diet or the control diet supplemented with 0, 1.5, 3 or 4.5 kg/t level of OAM from 26 to 38 weeks of age. The OAM supplementation did not affect feed consumption, egg production, egg weight, feed conversion ratio and body weight. Except for yolk index none of egg quality parameters and metabolic profile were affected by the dietary treatments. Inclusion of OAM into the basal diet increased villus height (quadraticaly), villus weight (quadraticaly), and tunica mucosal width (linearly) eexcept for crypt depth. Based on the results, dietary supplementation with OAM containing 60% formic acid, 20% propionic acid, and 20% soft acid appears to exert neither positive nor negative effects on laying performance, egg quality parameters, or serum blood parameters. But the OAM supplementation into basal diet had a positive effect on the intestinal histomorphology except for crypt depth. © 2015, Agricultural Research Communication Centre. All rights reserved.

Increasing non-ecological land use necessitates more efficient using and utilization of land by man. Therefore, in recent years studies on sustainable land use have gained momentum. In this study, temporal change in land use, mainly between years 1940 and 2010, in Asi river delta on Southern Turkey was covered. To this end, in addition to literature, topographical maps and satellite images from year 1940 and after were used. Also, data were collected through field studies and interviews. Collected data were evaluated from geographical viewpoint using Geographical information system (GIS) and Remote sensing (RS) methods. Unplanned settlement in delta has reached levels high enough to threaten agricultural fields. Especially, great tendency shown by Samandag city and the villages around it towards expanding into delta is an indicator of this threat. In addition, uncontrolled sand mining and touristic facilities on the coastline are also indicators of wrong land use. In future, direction of settlement to slopes around the delta rather than lowlands will be a much more ecological approach. © 2012 Triveni Enterprises.

We investigated and analyzed the change in the status of sexual experience and awareness of the Social Sciences Faculty students in ten years. The study was conducted in two stages each comprising 245 Social Sciences Faculty students first in 2000-2001 and the second in 2009-2010 educational years. Significantly more students confessed sexual experience (from 45.3% to 59.6%), and this was trebled among female ones over a decade (from 16.8% to 51.2%). While the age at the first sexual experience was become elder significantly, confession of first sexual experience under 20 years old among female students was increased from 5.6% to 23.2% over a decade. Although, sexual experience with a first time seen partner was dropped from 17.6% to 14.3%, the number of foreign sexual partner was trebled. The increase in the percentage of the students confessing sexual experience, risky sexual behaviours and lack of awareness may suggest the obvious need for starting formal sexual education. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2011.

The intermetallic matrix composites (IMCs) of Ni3Al reinforced by SiC were fabricated by powder metallurgical routes via solid state reaction of nickel and SiC particulates by volume combustion process. Pure nickel, aluminum and SiC powders were used as initial substances. The powders were mixed, and the compacts were combusted in an atmosphere controlled furnace. The synthesis of the SiC added Ni3Al was attempted to improve the nature of the Ni3Al composite. The initially added SiC particles were unstable and decomposed partially within the matrix during combustion, and the morphology of the IMCs changed upon the dissolution rate of SiC and combustion temperature. It was confirmed that the dissolution rate of SiC was effective on improvement of the hot working temperature of Ni3Al IMCs.
