We review recent progresses on the use of twin-wave-based diversity schemes to enhance optical transmission performances in both nonlinear and linear regimes. Phase-conjugated twin waves with and without spectral redundancy are presented. The implications to perturbation-based fiber nonlinearity compensation are discussed. Performance enhancement techniques for real-valued orthogonal frequency-division multiplexed (OFDM) signals with a built-in Hermitian symmetry, as well as positive-valued OFDM twin signals suitable for cost-effective intensity modulation and direct detection, are also discussed. © 2015 IEEE.

A method includes transmitting, by a communications controller to a user equipment (UE), a first data block on a first carrier and transmitting, by the communications controller to the UE, a first downlink control information (DCI) to initiate a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) process associated with the first data block. The method also includes retransmitting, by the communications controller to the UE, the first data block and transmitting, by the communications controller to the UE, a second DCI, where the second DCI includes a first transmission indicator and an indicator of the first carrier, and where the second DCI continues the HARQ process.

Embodiments of the present invention provide methods and apparatuses for reducing power consumption for a mobile electronic device in order to extend battery life. In an embodiment, the mobile electronic device monitors a power level of the battery in the mobile electronic device, determines that the power level of the battery reaches a predetermined threshold, and based upon the determination, terminates a first launcher currently running on the mobile electronic device and activates a second launcher on the mobile electronic device. By activating the second launcher which has power saving features, the power consumption of the mobile electronic device is reduced and thus the battery life is extended while preserving the basic functions of the mobile device.


A system and method for channel state information feedback in wireless communications systems are provided. A method for reporting channel information includes determining, at a user equipment, a channel information type for first channel information to be reported to a communications controller, determining the first channel information conditioned on previously reported channel information and on the channel information type, and reporting the first channel information, the channel information type, or a combination thereof, to the communications controller.

A method and apparatus for applying Forward Error Correction (FEC) in 66 b systems. For a user data, the apparatus uses a method comprising the steps of generating one or more data blocks using a 66 b code format and the user data; generating one or more FEC parity blocks using the 66 b code format, wherein the parity is calculated over the data blocks; and generating an FEC codeword using the data blocks and the FEC parity blocks.
