Most of computer algebra systems were designed to have a command line interface. However, the interaction with CAS engine through terminal on tablets is too inefficient. A user have to switch the software keyboard over and over again to complete the input operation. We need a GUI for computer algebra system on tablets. In this study, we used immunohistochemical techniques to determine the cell type of leucine-enkephalin (Leu-ENK)-immunoreactive cells in the axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) pituitary. Immunoreactive cells were scattered throughout the pars distalis except for the dorso-caudal portion. These cells were immuno-positive for luteinizing hormone (LH), but they were immuno-negative for adrenocorticotrophic, growth, and thyroid-stimulating hormones, as well as prolactin. Immunoelectron microscopy demonstrated that Leu-ENK-like substance and LH co-localized within the same secretory granules. Leu-ENK secreted from gonadotrophs may participate in LH secretion in an autocrine fashion, and/or may participate in the release of sex steroids together with LH. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd.


While materials development is promoted by the progress of measurement and analysis techniques, advanced materials can contribute to improving measurement and analysis. Here, fluorescent materials development is reported, mainly on X-ray scintillator YAlO3 (YAP). Investigations included synthesis of the single-phase YAP by the polymerized complex method, film coating, and its application to neutron detection. The YAP:Ce has been put to practical use as a fast scintillator for NaI, which is an example that the advanced material should improve measurement and analysis. © 2015 The Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry.

Background and AimsUnlike other taxa in Juglandaceae or in closely related families, which are anemophilous, Platycarya strobilacea has been suggested to be entomophilous. In Juglandaceae, Juglans and Carya show heterodichogamy, a reproductive strategy in which two morphs coexist in a population and undergo synchronous reciprocal sex changes. However, there has been no study focusing on heterodichogamy in the other six or seven genera, including Platycarya.MethodsInflorescence architecture, sexual expression and pollination biology were examined in a P. strobilacea population in Japan. Flowering phenology was monitored daily for 24 trees in 2008 and 27 in 2009. Flower visitors and inhabitants were recorded or collected from different sexes and stages.Key resultsThe population of P. strobilacea showed heterodichogamous phenology with protogynous and duodichogamous-protandrous morphs. This dimorphism in dichogamy was associated with distinct inflorescence morphologies. Thrips pollination was suggested by the frequent presence of thrips with attached pollen grains, the scarcity of other insect visitors, the synchronicity of thrips number in male spikes with the maturation of female flowers, and morphological characters shared with previously reported thrips-pollinated plants. Male spikes went through two consecutive stages: bright yellow and strong-scented M1 stage, and brownish and little-scented M2 stage. The latter contained more thrips, synchronized better with the receptive stage of female flowers of the reciprocal morph and is probably the main period of pollen export.Conclusions Platycarya strobilaceais heterodichogamous and thrips-pollinated, both of which are relatively rare conditions in angiosperms. In male spikes of P. strobilacea, there is probably a temporal decoupling of pollinator attraction and pollen export. © 2013 © The Author 2013. Background: Collective motions in quantum many-body systems are described as bosonic excitations. Multi-phonon excitations in atomic nuclei, however, were observed very rarely. In particular, the first two-phonon γ vibrational (2γ) excitation in odd-A nuclei was reported in 2006 and only a few have been known so far. Two theoretical calculations for the data on Nb103 were performed, one of which was done by the present author within a limited model space up to 2γ basis states. Quite recently, conspicuously enhanced B(E2)s, reduced E2 transition probabilities, feeding 2γ states were observed in Nb105 and conjectured that their parent states, called band (4), are candidates of 3γ states.Purpose: In the present work, the model space is enlarged up to 4γ basis states. The purpose is twofold: One is to see how the description of 2γ eigenstates in the previous work is improved, and the other is to examine the existence of collective 3γ eigenstates, and when they exist, study their collectivity through calculating interband B(E2)s.Method: The particle-vibration coupling model based on the cranking model and the random-phase approximation is used to calculate the vibrational states in rotating odd-A nuclei. Interband B(E2)s are calculated by adopting the method of the generalized intensity relation.Results: The present model reproduces well the energy spectra and B(E2)s of 0γ-2γ states in Nb103 and Nb105. For 3γ states, calculated spectra indicate that the most collective state with the highest K at zero rotation feels strong Coriolis force after rotation sets in and consequently is observed with lowered K, where K is the projection of the angular momentum to the z axis. The calculated states account for the observed enhanced B(E2)s within factors of 2-3.Conclusions: The present calculation with the enlarged model space reproduces the observed 0γ-2γ states well and predicts properties of collective 3γ states. The most collective one is thought to be the main component of the observed band (4) from the analyses of the energy spectra and interband B(E2)s although some mixing with states that are not included in the present model would be possible. © 2014 American Physical Society.

Newly-developed bis(thiourea) 1d was found to be an efficient organocatalyst for the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction. High enantioselectivities were obtained in the reaction of 2-cyclohexen-1-one with both aromatic aldehydes (up to 84% ee) and aliphatic aldehydes (up to 96% ee). © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. We study the character change of the pionic condensation at finite isospin chemical potential μI by adopting the linear sigma model as a nonlocal interaction between quarks. At low |μI| the condensation is purely bosonic, then the Cooper pairing around the Fermi surface grows gradually as |μI| increases. This q-q̄ pairing is weakly coupled in comparison with the case of the q-q pairing that leads to color superconductivity. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

Objective: To examine potential associations between socioeconomic factors and self-rated health among a national sample of Japanese men aged 50-59 years between 2005 and 2010, including the 2008 global financial crisis. Design: Prospective cohort study. Setting: Randomly selected 2515 census areas from a total of 1.8 million census areas in Japan. Participants: This study utilised data from a national, longitudinal survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Starting in 2005, 16 738 Japanese men aged 50-59 years were recruited and sent a questionnaire each year. We analysed data for the 6-year period (2005-2010) from participants who had worked for over 20 years in the same industry (n=9727). Main outcome measures: We focused on worsening self-rated health status by occupation, education and employment contract. Results: Working in the manufacturing industry was associated with worsening self-rated health scores when compared to those working in management (HR=1.19; 95% CI 1.04 to 1.37). A relationship between education level and worsening self-rated health was also identified as follows: junior high school (HR=1.49; 95% CI 1.31 to 1.69), high school (HR=1.29; 95% CI 1.17 to 1.42), and vocational college (HR=1.25; 95% CI 1.07 to 1.46), when compared with those holding universitylevel qualifications. Precarious employment (HR=1.17; 95% CI 1.00 to 1.37) was also associated with worsening self-rated health status in the current study. Conclusions: This study suggests that working in manufacturing for more than 20 years and having lower education levels may have a significant impact on the self-rated health of middle-aged Japanese men. This may reflect a progressive decline in Japanese working conditions following the global financial crisis and/or the impact of lower socioeconomic status.


We examined orexin-like immunoreactivity in the pituitary of the red-bellied piranha (Pygocentrus nattereri). Orexin-B-immunoreactive (IR) cells corresponded to luteinizing hormone (LH)-containing cells in the pars distalis, and orexin-B-IR fibers corresponded to melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH)-containing fibers in the pars nervosa. In the pars distalis, orexin-B-IR puncta that were also immunoreactive for MCH were observed around the orexin-B-IR cells. In the ventral hypothalamus, orexin-B-IR and MCH-IR neurons were found in the nucleus lateralis tuberis. Immunoelectron-microscopic analysis revealed that the orexin-B-like substance co-localized with LH in secretory granules and with MCH in MCH-containing neurons. Some of the MCH secreted in the pituitary might participate in the modulation of LH secretion from the gonadotrophs, together with orexin-B, leading to food intake by the stimulation of growth hormone secretion from the somatotrophs. © 2012 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

The distribution of the two-phonon γ-vibrational collectivity in the rotating triaxial odd-A nucleus Nb103, which is one of the three nuclides for which experimental data were reported recently, is calculated in the framework of the particle vibration coupling model based on the cranked shell model plus random phase approximation. This framework was previously utilized for analyses of the zero- and one-phonon bands in another mass region and is applied to the two-phonon band for the first time. In the present calculation, three sequences of two-phonon bands share collectivity almost equally at finite rotation whereas the K=Ω+4 state is the purest at zero rotation. © 2011 American Physical Society.
