In this paper, the optical and thermal model of a single LED is established with finite volume thermal simulation method and non-imaging optics to accurately calculate the optical field and temperature field distributions. Experiments are conducted to confirm the validity of the model. Then the luminous intensity distribution on the target plane of the LED arc-array system is discussed by energy superposition theory, and the uniform illumination can be obtained on the target plane at a certain distance. Furthermore, the sices of fins and pins of the composite heatsink, the base thickness and component spacing are optimized for heat convection enhancement.

The novel molybdenum-tungstate red emitting phosphor was successfully synthesized by the high temperature solid phase reaction. The spectrum and the crystal structure of the phosphor were characterized by F-4500 and XRD. The results indicated that the most intense peak of emission spectrum was located at 615 nm, which corresponded to the 5D 0→ 7F 2 transition of Eu 3+, and the appropriate W 6+ addition was favorable for the improvement of relative luminosity, shapes and positions of excited and emissive spectra of the phosphors without changing. Moreover, the investigation on the mechanism of influence of the replacement of K + by Na + or Li + on luminescent properties of the phosphors under the premise of the optimal ratio of WO 4 2- to Mo 4 2- was carried out.

A series of novel red tungsto-molybdate phosphors, LiEu 1-xSm x(WO 4) 0.5(MoO 4) 1.5 (x = 0, 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00%, 2.00%, 4.00%, 6.00%, 8.00% and 10.00%), were synthesized using conventional solid state reaction methods. The experimental results indicate that the introduction of Sm 3+ changes neither the crystal structure nor the shape and position of the emission spectra. However, it extends the excitation region at 400 nm and enhances the emission at 615 nm. The reason for the improvement of red emission of Eu 3+ by the introduction of Sm 3+ and the energy transfer mechanism from Sm 3+ to Eu 3+ was investigated in detail. © 2012 Science China Press and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
