Fu Jen Catholic University , formerly "The Catholic University of Peking", is a private co-educational university founded by the Holy See, located in New Taipei City, Taiwan. It is the oldest Jesuit-Catholic university in Sinophone world and is known for its strong ties with Roman Curia. It takes its name from the Chinese Fu Jen meaning "assistance" and "benevolence". Colloquially known by the Chinese as "FǔDà" .It has established sister-school relationships with more than 300 universities worldwide, including the Notre Dame, UC Berkeley, Tohoku and C9 League universities. In Taiwan, its College of Management was the first one of AACSB accredited , also the College of Medicine was the earliest to promote PBL as pedagogy for medical education. Fu Jen’s alumni are referred to as "FǔDàRén" , they include the former First Lady, Wang Guangmei, a number of politicians represented in the Legislative Yuan and professors at institutions such as the Harvard, Yale, Georgetown and Texas A&M University. Disclosed is a metal gradient-doped cathode material for lithium ion batteries including a hexagonal-crystalline material body and a modifying metal. The metal gradient-doped cathode material is formed by coating modifying metal hydroxide on the surface of the hexagonal-crystalline material using a chemical co-precipitation method, then sintering the modifying metal hydroxide coated hexagonal-crystalline material. The modifying metal is different from the active metals, more concentrated on the surface, and gradually decreases toward the core of particle. A gradient-doped distribution is formed without any boundary or layered structure in the particle. The surface of the powder with more the modifying metal can effectively reduce the reactivity of the cathode material with the electrolyte in the lithium battery. Thus, the overall operation-stability and safety of lithium batteries are improved, and only a little amount of the modifying metal is needed, thereby avoiding the reduction of capacity and increasing the rate-capability and cycle-life.

OBJECTIVES:: Increasing numbers of patients with prolonged mechanical ventilation generates a tremendous strain on healthcare systems. Patients with prolonged mechanical ventilation suffer from long-term poor quality of life. However, no study has ever explored the willingness to receive palliative care or terminal withdrawal and the factors influencing willingness. DESIGN:: Cross-sectional study. SETTING:: Five different hospitals of Taipei City Hospital system. PATIENTS:: Adult patients with ventilatory support for more than 60 days. INTERVENTIONS:: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS:: We identified the family members of 145 consecutive patients with prolonged mechanical ventilation in five hospitals of Taipei City Hospital system and enrolled family members for 106 patients (73.1%). We collected information from patient families’ regarding concepts (knowledge, attitude, and experiences) of palliative care, caregiver burden, family function, patient quality of life, and physician-family communications. From the medical record, we obtained duration of hospitalization, consciousness level, disease severity, medical cost, and the presence of do-not-resuscitate orders. The vast majority of family members agreed with the concept of palliative care (90.4%) with 17.3% of the family members agreeing to ventilator withdrawal currently and 67.5% terminally in anticipation of death. Approximately half of the family members regretted having chosen prolonged mechanical ventilation (56.7%). Reduced patient quality of life and increased family understanding of palliative care significantly associated with increased caregiver willingness to endorse palliative care and withdraw life-sustaining agents in anticipation of death. Longer duration of ventilator usage and hospitalization was associated with increased feelings of regret about choosing prolonged mechanical ventilation. CONCLUSIONS:: During prolonged mechanical ventilation, physicians should thoroughly discuss its benefits and burdens. Families should be given the opportunity to discuss the circumstances under which they might request the implementation of palliative care or withdrawal of mechanical ventilation in order to avoid prolonging the dying process. University librarians are required to continuously adjust to keep up with changing customers' needs. The study uses structural equation modeling (SEM) to examine the effects of different facets of job satisfaction on the task performance and contextual performance of university librarians. Specifically, the study breaks down the overall measure of job satisfaction first into its intrinsic and extrinsic components, and then into sub-facets of these components, in order to isolate in detail how they influence job performance. Findings from competing statistical models demonstrate that certain facets of intrinsic job satisfaction strongly predict both task performance and contextual performance. The findings can be particularly useful for providing a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between job satisfaction and job performance in the university library context. Finally, the study considers managerial implications. © 2014 Elsevier Inc.

Since its introduction in the 1980s, Kano's two-dimensional model has become one of the most popular models with which to evaluate quality, finding a place in a wide range of industries. For decades, various approaches to regression analysis have been applied to explore asymmetric and non-linear relationships in the Kano model. Although a number of authors have questioned the use of these regression methods, there has been a lack of validity testing to evaluate their convergence with the results of the Kano questionnaire in classifying quality attributes. This study proposes a novel approach to regression analysis for the classification of quality attributes, including must-be, one-dimensional, attractive, and indifferent categories, as well as mixed-class distribution. Using popular tools and techniques for the measurement of customer satisfaction, the proposed approach is capable of simplifying the process of collecting data making it far easier to implement than the list of functional and dysfunctional questions initiated by Kano. An empirical study of a food and beverage chain showed that the proposed approach is capable of returning acceptable classification results, compared to the Kano questionnaire. A validity test indicated that the proposed approach significantly outperformed dummy variable regression and the moderated regression. In conclusion, the proposed approach provides a more practical implementation, while maintaining classification power on par with the Kano questionnaire. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd.

While focusing on lot splitting in the job-shop scheduling problem, this study attempts to minimize the weighted total of stock, machine idle and carrying costs. Stock cost is determined using processing time. Machine idle cost is estimated using machine idle time. Carrying cost is calculated using the carry number of lot splitting. Results of this study demonstrate that stock cost and machine idle cost are inversely related to the number of lots split and have marginal decreasing result of benefit. The benefit of processing time is not as apparent as that of count and increase in turn. Carrying cost is positively related to the number of lots split. The minimum weighted total cost of stock, machine idle and carrying costs typically appears when the number of lots split is 2 or 3. The ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm is used to solve the job-shop scheduling problem. Compared with the solution obtained by LINGO, the ACO algorithm performs well in scheduling and uses less time to solve the problem. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A compound used to prevent diseases caused by aquaporin deficiency, which is 18-Glycyrrhetinic acid derivative. Said compound can not only prevent diseases caused aquaporin deficiency, but be able to prevent aquaporin (AQP) production and enhance skin function. Since AQPs have many advantages in skin cells, e.g. promoting water and glycerine molecular transportation, increasing skin elasticity and cuticle moisture, increasing the cell proliferation and cell migration, aquaporin can promote skin bather function and wound cicatrization. Therefore, said compound can be applied potentially as a medicinal cosmetic in skin medicine cosmetology, or as a new medical composition to treat diseases caused by AQP abnormality, such as urine concentration defect, wound healing slow down, corneal re-epithelialization slow down and etc.
