Approaches designed to prolong the service life of electrostatic precipitators, such as decreasing the strength of the impact action on the electrode systems, reducing the influence of stress concentrators in transition sections and welded joints, and estimating and selecting operating regimes to support service life and cleaning efficiency, are evaluated. Studies of the dynamic behavior of the electrodes in order to identify structural designs intended to reduce losses of the impact energy from the hammer device to the elements of the electrodes were carried out. New engineering designs for the construction of the electrodes were developed and limits on increasing their service life were estimated. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York. Source

Results are provided for a study of detachment with impact action for dust deposited in an electric corona discharge field on electric filter electrode plates. It is established that a significant factor determining the level of acceleration required for dust detachment from electrodes is the weight of dust accumulated on electrodes before shaking. With an increase in dust weight on electrodes the level of acceleration required may be reduced. It is shown that consideration of the mutual distribution of captured dust before shaking and the level of acceleration over an electric filter electrode surface makes it possible to reduce the amount of impact action. The applicability of the method proposed for evaluating the level of acceleration on electric filter electrode plates by means of a magnet is demonstrated. This is sufficient for analyzing the accuracy and reliability of results obtained. In order to increase the life of electric filter electrode structures it is recommended to perform impact action in an area of least dust accumulation, and also to calculate the minimum impact action and time of application taking account of the optimum amount of dust before shaking and distribution of this amount with time over an electrode. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York. Based on an analysis of Deitsh's formula, which relates the velocity of a gas in an electrostatic precipitator to the magnitude of the overshooting through the apparatus, it is established that the optimal velocity of the flow in an electrostatic precipitator corresponds to the minimum of the second derivative, i.e., 50-60% above the velocity corresponding to the inflection point. It is shown that, depending on the length of the active zone of an electrostatic precipitator, the nonuniformity of the flow may lead to a decrease in the overshooting of 10% and more. On the basis of the results obtained, a gas-distributing lattice mounted in a converging tube that creates nonuniformity in the active zone of the terminal field of the electrostatic precipitator is developed. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.
