Composite hydrogel films for contact lenses and the methods of manufacturing are provided. The composite hydrogel films are formed by the following steps of: mixing a hydrogel precursor with nanospheres dispersed in a colloid; evaporating the solvent in the mixture; curing the hydrogel to form a composite hydrogel film having nanospheres arranged in amorphous arrays. The composite hydrogel films selectively reflect light in hazardous wavelengths.

A p-type ethanol sensor with a response time of ∼ 8.3s at room temperature was produced by SnO2:Sb nanowires. The electrical properties of p-type SnO2 nanowires are stable with a hole concentration of 1.544 × 1017cm- 3 and a field-effect mobility of 22cm2V-2S-1. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Hall measurement revealed that as-synthesized nanowires exhibit p-type behavior. A comprehensive investigation of the p-type sensing mechanism is reported. © 2010 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Learning effect in scheduling problems has received growing attention since Biskup [3] introduced the position-based model, where the learning curve is expressed as a power function of a job position. Hurley [11] pointed out that the actual processing time of a given job drops to zero precipitously as the number of jobs increases in the standard power model. Moreover, the learning rates show considerable variation within industries or firms. The variation extends not only across firms at a given time, but also within firms over time. For instance, the learning curves usually have an initial downward concavity, and no further improvements are made after some amount of production. Beside the standard power model, learning curve is seldom discussed in scheduling. In this paper, we offer a surprising simple yet realistic learning effect model which has the flexibility to describe different learning curves easily. For instance, the standard power model, the well-known S-shaped and the plateau functions are special cases of the proposed model. We then present the optimal solution for some scheduling problems. © 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.


To achieve national CO2 emission reduction targets, the Taiwanese government is planning to adopt policies, such as feed-in tariffs (FITs) and capital subsidies, in order to attract the public as well as companies to invest in and use solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. However, a huge budget is necessary for the government to implement such policies. Therefore, it is important that it fully recognizes which policy, or combination of policies, promoting solar PV applications has the greatest economic benefit. This study uses the system dynamics approach to develop a simulation for assessing these promotion policies. Using this simulation system, policymakers can carry out cost/benefit analyses for different combinations of promotion policies, CO2 emission reduction goals, and budget limitations. In addition, the simulation scenarios include different FIT prices, subsidies, and upper limits of annual ROI (return of investment). The simulation period is from 2011 to 2030. We find that when adopting only FITs or capital subsidies with a fixed upper limit of ROI, increasing the FIT price or subsidy is a good approach. When the upper limit of ROI is fixed, the effect of different combinations of FIT prices and subsidies on the accumulation of solar PV applications is insignificant. Nevertheless, the promotion policy with the higher subsidy and lower initial FIT price has a lower average cost of CO2 emission reduction. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.

A method for treating urinary system disorders comprising: a pharmaceutical composition comprising a carbon material and a water-containing carrier, the pharmaceutical composition comprising a carbon material in an amount from 0.001 mgs to 100 mgs, both of the carbon material and the water-containing carrier constitute a pharmaceutically acceptable water-containing carrier carrying the carbon material, and the carbon material having a diameter falling within a range from 2 nm to 2 mm; Then instilled this pharmaceutical composition into the bladder for adsorb LPS of bacteria, aqueous vehicle in a volume of from 50 mL to 700 mL. After adsorb, discharging the LPS together with urine out of cystitis patients. This method is capable of reducing symptoms of cystitis by contacting the carbon material with a bladder or related tissues of the bladder in an animal body.

Forecasting the long-term load in a country is a critical task for the government. In addition, establishing a precise upper bound for the long-term load avoids unnecessary power plant investment. For these purposes, a collaborative fuzzy-neural approach is proposed in this study. In the proposed approach, multiple experts construct their own fuzzy back propagation networks from various viewpoints to forecast the long-term load in a country. To aggregate these long term load forecasts, fuzzy intersection is applied. After that, a radial basis function network is constructed to defuzzify the aggregation result and to generate a representative/crisp value. The practical case of Taiwan is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. According to the experimental results, the proposed methodology improved both the precision and accuracy of long term load forecasting by 40% and 99%, respectively. In addition, the proposed methodology made it possible to accurately forecast the average and peak values of the annual energy consumption at the same time. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. This study proposes a two-field driving scheme for field sequential color liquid crystal displays (LCDs) without color filters. The proposed scheme is based on angularly positioned color LEDs. In each fieldthe angular rays of two colors are collimated by a collimation lens, redirected by a light guideand converged by a cylindrical-lens array to map into corresponding sub-pixel positions to efficiently display color images. The three main advantages of this approach are the elimination of dye color filtershigh feasibility using conventional ultra-precision machining processesand a larger color gamut. © 2012 Optical Society of America.

A combinational cooling pad structure with flash drive storage comprises a cooling pad and a flash drive. The cooling pad comprises at least three combinational pads with structural surfaces. At least two connecting portions are correspondingly disposed between the combinational pads. Limiting structures are correspondingly disposed on outer sides of the outer combinational pads. The combinational pads are connected by the connecting portions to form a structure which can be unfolded flatly; and are folded closely together to form a structural body surrounded by the structural surfaces; and are combined securely by the corresponding limiting structures. An inner hole for inserting the flash drive is defined and formed by inner surfaces of the surrounding combinational pads. A coupling portion is protrudingly disposed at an end of the flash drive, and an interface connector is disposed on the coupling portion. The coupling portion is then inserted into the inner hole.

Disclosed is a super capacitor and method of manufacture thereof. This invention relates to a solid state super capacitor comprising a solid state polymer electrolyte and a modified carbonaceous electrode. Said modified carbonaceous electrode comprises a conductive carbonaceous material covered with active ingredients. Said modified carbonaceous electrode and said solid state polymer electrolyte are layered on top of each other to form a sandwich-like structure. Said super capacitor performs much better than known super capacitor comprising liquid or gel-form electrolytes. Said super capacitor has higher conductivity, therefore can be manufactured without a current collector. Since said super capacitor contains solid state polymer electrolyte, the method of manufacturing said super capacitor is more environmentally friendly and has a higher safety level.

A hybrid renewable energy supply system is mainly applied to a stationary or mobile actual mass-production power generating operation to transform a lot of organic waste into electric energy using a gaseous biomass power plant, and may be combined with renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy, micro-hydro energy and the like, thereby providing a self-operating system without using mains. The gaseous biomass power plant can use an organic material source, such as food wastewater, livestock farming wastewater, agriculture waste or the like, to generate a biomass gas, thereby possessing dual effects of waste recovery and clean energy production. The hybrid renewable energy supply system comprises at least one renewable energy device for transforming nature energy into electric energy; and an electric energy control device, which connects the renewable energy device to a mains grid and controls storage and output of electric energy of the renewable energy device.
