Objective: To present results of virological study of wild birds inhabiting Western Mongolia. Methods: Over a period of 2003-2008, we isolated 13 influenza A viruses: H1N1, H3N6, H13N8 and H4N6 subtypes. We did not isolate any H5N1 subtype, that still cause epizooty in wild birds and poultry. Results: We revealed taxonomic and ecological heterogeneity of the birds involved in maintenance of circulation of influenza viruses in the given territory. Influenza viruses were isolated from birds of 6 orders; among them there are species preferring water and semi-aquatic biotopes, one species preferring dry plain region, and also one species which can inhabit both dry and water biotopes. Conclusions: Representatives of all main orders of Western Mongolia avifauna are involved in support of influenza A virus circulation, highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza viruses were registered in Mongolia thus it's necessary to continue permanent influenza virus surveillance in wild birds' populations. © 2010 Hainan Medical College. Nanodispersed manganese oxide is a unique substance with a high application potential in nanoelectronics and nanooptics. The scientific literature contains little information about the biological effects and toxic action of this substance after it enters a human body. The biological effects were studied in Wistar rats after intragastric administration of manganese oxide for 30 days. The effects included loss in the body mass, activation of oxidation processes (increased level of lipid hydroperoxides, MDA in the blood serum), decrease in the antioxidant activity (inhibited antioxidant activity in the blood serum), damaged hepatocyte membranes (higher serum AST and ALT levels), and protein synthesizing liver function abnormalities (low albumins, high gamma globulins in the blood serum) © 2013 Lifescience Global. The evaluation and prediction of air quality in settlements requires our awareness of the main pollutant sources and their power changing with time (anthropogenic sources) or under the influence of environmental conditions (natural sources). In seaside cities, aerosol of sea origin is one of significant sources of air pollutants. Complex estimation of different atmospheric boundary layer pollutants in Gelendzhik was carried out in the first decade of July 2009. The conducted investigations showed that in the period of observations the portion of sea aerosol made up from 4 to 25% of the total aerosol. These data correlates well with similar data for the Mediterranean. It was found that pollutant concentrations in aerosol were considerably lower than the corresponding average daily maximum permissible concentrations values. Copyright © 2010, AIDIC Servlzl S.r.l.
