Optic Disc (OD) localization is an important step in retinal image analysis especially for grading Diabetic retinopathy and Glaucoma. This paper describes a method to automatically localize the OD position in retinal fundus images. The method localizes the OD by combining intensity and vascular information. Initially, the vascular structure is extracted using 2 dimensional Gabor filtering followed by a simple thresholding technique. Then the initial OD candidates are selected using intensity information. The candidates’ satisfying area and density criterion are considered for the final stage. In the final stage, the entropy of vascular directions on the final candidates was calculated, and the candidate having maximum and optimum entropy was considered as OD region. The proposed method was evaluated on the two publicly available DRIVE and STARE databases. The method was able to obtain 100% of OD localization accuracy on DRIVE database with 2.2 seconds average computation time. © 2014 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.

Nowadays Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) have projected to increase the bandwidth, improve ease of access and maintain accuracy through replication. CDNs distributed the content to the nearest cache servers which are located nearest to the users, ensuing in fast, reliable applications of the users. The proposed framework focuses that to enable the quality of service analysis of web service methods for real time service provisioning (RTSP). The proposed model calculated the quality of service with the Non-functional properties of the various services. It is based on the respond to the client requirements under various constraints and to satisfy the client request. The proposed model contains the grading system to the services and ranking system to make the functionally - equivalent services. It is able to evaluate the quality of service of a service using an evaluation method that is independent of the context. Automatic detection of blood vessel in retinal fundus image is an important task in the computer aided diagnosis of ophthalmology. This paper presents a fully automatic enhancement/thresholding based vessel extraction method. The input image is enhanced by histogram matching and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) techniques. Following CLAHE, Wiener filtering is carried in order to remove the background noise. A local entropy based thresholding technique is then used to extract blood vessel from the 2 dimensional Gabor filter response of CLAHE'd image. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated on two publicly available DRIVE and STARE databases and compared with the methods reported recently. The proposed method extracts blood vessels in a DRIVE image within 1.47 seconds(s) with (accuracy, sensitivity, specificity) = (95.74%,72.59%,97.99%), and (95.26%,76.93%,96.72%) for the DRIVE and STARE databases, respectively. The average predictive value on both the databases were also higher (73.56%) compared to the recent methods. © 2014 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.

Electric power providing companies has to deliver reliable electric power in quality and at minimum cost for the competition in deregulated environment. To know the power system security and operating state, power flows in lines and bus voltage magnitude and angle are calculated using power flow analysis, and to tune the power system for minimum operating cost while ensure security and reliability, Optimal Power Flow (OPF) is used. OPF is a non-convex, complex problem, conventional mathematical techniques gets struck in local optimal point based on the initial point. In recent years, heuristic algorithms are used to overcome local optimal solution and to reach global optimal solution. Heuristic algorithm Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Real coded GA (RGA) has better Selection and Crossover operation, Differential Evolution (DE) has better Mutation process, inspires the hybrid of RGA-DE algorithm, presented in this paper. In this work RGA, DE and hybrid RGA-DE algorithms are used to find OPF solutions for a standard test IEEE 30 bus system.

This paper is based on a study that was done by utilising construction and demolition debris that had been effectively recycled, in structural members. The steel tubular columns were filled with different types of waste material, as well as recycled aggregate concrete, instead of normal conventional concrete. The results were subsequently analysed. The behaviour of circular and square concrete-filled steel tubular sections (CFSTs) under axial load, in which coarse aggregate had been partially replaced by recycled aggregates, is presented. The effects of steel tube dimensions, shapes and the confinement of concrete are also examined. Measured column strengths are compared with the values predicted by Eurocode 4, Australian Standards and American Codes. Twelve specimens were tested with 20 MPa concrete and steel sections with diameter-to-thickness ratios of 18,5, 25,3 and 36,0. The columns were of two different shapes - a circular-shaped set with diameters of 76 mm and 89 mm, and a square-shaped set with sizes 72 mm and 91 mm. The circular-shaped columns of 76 mm diameter and the square-shaped columns with 72 mm diameter are 900 mm long. The circular columns with a diameter of 89 mm and the square columns of 91 mm diameter are 350 mm long. Eurocode 4 (EC4) gives the best estimation for both conventional and recycled aggregate concrete. However, the American Concrete Institute (ACI) / Australian Standards (AS) equation predicted lower values than measured during the experiments. Hence the ACI/AS equation has been modified by introducing a multiplying factor 'k' to predict good results for columns of L/D < 12. The values of k factor for L/D ratio varying from 4 to 12 are suggested in this study. From the results it has been noted that square columns save 30% of steel when compared with circular columns. It was also observed that the ultimate load of steel tubular columns filled with recycled aggregate concrete is higher than that of conventional concrete and columns filled with recycled aggregate concrete, and can result in a 10% saving in the cost of concrete. This research therefore proposes a solution for effective solid waste management, which will also prove to be cost effective.

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are popular as they are potentially low cost solutions to various real-world challenges. WSNs consist of autonomous nodes to monitor an environment. WSN developers face challenges from communication link failures, memory/computational constraints, and limited energy. Many WSN issues are formulated as multidimensional optimization problems and solved through bio-inspired techniques. Clustering divides a network into interconnected substructures, called clusters with each cluster having a cluster head (CH) as coordinator in the substructure. Each CH is a temporary base station in its zone/cluster communicating with other CHs. This study proposes an improved cluster head selection for efficient data aggregation in sensor networks. Histogram Equalization (HE) is one of the most commonly used methods for image contrast enhancement. However, HE and most other contrast enhancement methods may produce un-natural looking images and the images obtained by these methods are not desirable in applications such as consumer electronic products where brightness preservation is necessary to avoid annoying artifacts. To solve such problems, Brightness preserving Fuzzy Histogram Equalization (BFHE) is proposed for image contrast enhancement. The BFHE consists of two stages. First, fuzzy histogram is computed based on fuzzy set theory to handle the inexactness of gray level values in a better way compared to classical crisp histograms. In the second stage, the fuzzy histogram is divided into two sub-histograms based on the value of Absolute mean brightness error (AMBE) and then equalizes them independently to preserve image brightness. The experimental results show that the BFHE method preserves more brightness and gives natural looking images than the conventional methods. The proposed method has been tested using several images and gives better visual quality as compared to the conventional methods. In this paper, an attempt has been made to unearth the performance of a passive solar still (Double slope) in winter conditions, and summer conditions and comparative study also done in sathyamangalam. This area is forest area and at the same time it is a mountain area also. The study started from the month of February2013 and went up to June 2013 subsequently it took place between August2012 and January 2013. In this experiment a double slope solar still was used. The area of the still is 0.5 m2. The objective of this paper is to observe the behavioural variation of the still in two different climatic conditions and providing these stills for irrigation. The performance of the still has to be find out for different climatic conditions and using this type of still for irrigation in this particular area. The Future Wireless Communication requires 100 Mbits/s Data rate, streaming audio/video, asymmetric access/multiple access, Adaptive modulation and coding, dynamic packet arrangement, smart antenna adaptation andIPv6 facility to enhance error free communication. Various digital modulation techniques have been taken for simulation and bit error rate is calculated in both MC-CDMA System and OFDMA system. The continuous phase modulation techniques ensures large bandwidth, high data rate and error free data communication. The convolution coder is mainly chosen to facilitate the Wireless communication. The output from serial to parallel converter is inhibited to various Adaptive modulation schemes like M-ary PSK, Mary QAM, M-ary CPM and M-ary MHPM systems. The modulated output is then fed to MC-CDMA System and OFDMA system in fast fading Rayleigh environment. The BER performance and SNR ratio are observed for both the MC-CDMA system and OFDMA System inhibiting various modulation schemes and the corresponding simulation result are plotted using Mat lab and Simulink software. The outputs of various modulation schemes are plotted for both OFDMA and MC-CDMA systems. It is found that MHPM is found to be the optimistic Adaptive modulation technique for future Wireless communication. © 2013 Science Publications.
