With the European Directives for REACh and GHS many existing regulations for hazardous substances are replaced. New pictograms and an alphanumeric (e.g.: GHS09) are implemented. 15 danger characteristics of the dangerous material regulation in 29 warning categories, which are divided into different danger categories again, are transferred. The signal words "danger ''and ''attention "are introduced. H-sentences (hazard statement) replace Rsentences and P-sentences (precautionary statement) replace S-sentences. With the warning categories for the environment the European Commission introduced an additional warning category with the designation ''damaging the ozone layer". This European Union-specific warning category will have however no own pictogram.For the transition period , beginning at that 01.12.2010, is a conversion assistance from ''the old "dangerous material regulation to the new regulations necessary. The conversion on the GHS regulation starting from the 01.12.2010 requires the following activities within the enterprises: - Examination of the risk analysis. - Examination and/or addition of the dangerous material listing. - Examination and/or addition of the operating instructions. - Instruction of the workers concerned before activities with the new marked materials. - Adjustment of in-plant marking.

The future of energy production is fraught with major challenges to overcome. Going for an operational performance test of various dumper types proved some valuable insights and supported the aim of developing alternative configurations for the application of mobile equipment in the Schöningen open pit. Based on the test results and theoretical calculations a cost comparison between the four dumpers was performed. As a conclusion the authors state that all tested ADT are operating in terms of costs, under the specific conditions of the pit, in quite comparable ranges. Hence the final investment decision will not be driven by economic reasons only, but non-monetary aspects like overall OEM service package, equipment availability and acceptance by operators are also of significant importance. And only by the combination of mobile equipment with bucket wheel-belt-spreader technology the Schöningen pit is to be operated in an optimum equipment configuration.
