In the present paper, we report on the results of an experimental study of heat- and mass-transfer processes in a Plazer 30-PL-W plasma-jet facility used for arc-plasma wire spraying. Using an original optical diagnostic system, we have studied melting behavior of the metal wire, break up and atomization of liquid metal. For the first time, experimental data on the in-flight velocity and temperature of spray particles in arc-plasma wire spraying were obtained. In spite of moderate particle velocities (about 50 m/s), the obtained steel coatings proved to have a low porosity of 1.5%. While studying the spraying process of tungsten wire, we observed the occurrence of anomalous high-velocity (over 4000 m/s) outbursts ejected from the surface of liquid metal droplets. The nature of such outbursts calls for further study. © 2015, ASM International.

The appearing of supercapacitor internal resistance influence on efficiency of energy delivery in resistance welding circuit was studied in the paper. The dependencies of supercapacitor energy storage efficiency on load resistance were obtained. Special techniques have been developed and bifurcation processes in nonlinear circuit with laser-Arc discharge and inertial feedback was investigated. It was found that Hopf bifurcation can be both supercritical and subcritical. The boundary between the two types of bifurcation has been found. The interaction of Hopf bifurcation with other ones (the bifurcation of the twin limit cycle and bifurcation of saddle separatrix) was described. © 2015 Lviv Polytechnic National University.

Annotation: Titanium and its alloys are widely used in the aerospace, chemical, pharmaceutical and other high-tech industries. However, a disadvantage of these materials is low tribological characteristics which limit their applicability and reduce the lifetime of the product. One way of improving the tribological characteristics of these materials is to form on the surface of the titanium a nitride layer by reactive plasma spraying. In this paper we consider a new variant of reactive plasma spraying – laser-microplasma reactive spraying which allows to deposit titanium coating with hardening nitride phases with high efficiency in the open atmosphere. The results of X-ray analysis confirm the formation of TiN, Ti2N nitrides. The coatings were characterized by a hardness of up to 4-5 times higher than the hardness of the starting material. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Structural transformations and formation of chemical inhomogeneity in the weld and HAZ metal in fusion welding of complex alloy of V96 type were studied. It is shown that under the influence of welding heat, partial melting of the alloy phase components proceeds in the heataffected zone with formation of structures of eutectic origin in the form of extended interlayers along the grain boundaries, causing metal embrittlement. Scandium addition to the alloy enables reducing the solidification processes and degree of segregation along the grain boundaries, as well as localizing partial melting of the grains without formation of coarse eutectic interlayers. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Presented are the results of investigations of peculiarities of structure formation and phase composition in a metal of laser-welded joints from high-strength steel 14KhGN2MDAFB. Studied are the structural peculiarities of joints on AMg2M alloy of 2 mm thickness made by TIG and FSW. Their mechanical properties and fatigue resistance characteristics at alternating axial loads with asymmetry ratio of stress cycle Rσ = 0.1 were determined. It is determined that the welded joints failure along the base metal at tension and have ultimate strength at 170 MPa level. Restricted endurance limits of the joints, made FSW, exceed corresponding indices of the joints, made by NCAAW, for 10-15% in 105 – 2·106 fluctuation cycle endurance range and make 90-95% from the values of this index for the base metal. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Method of welding provides reliability of connection without the use of suture. The advantages of laser and hybrid laser-arc welding in production of welded structures from high strength steels are increase of efficiency due to rise of the welding rate by order; significant (3 – 5 times) decrease of heat input; reduction of weld size; receiving of fine grain structures in the welds and the heat affected zone increasing strength of the joint and reducing susceptibility to crack formation. Research of the peculiarities of laser and hybrid processes, their effect on weld formation, revealing the advantages and eliminating the disadvantages of laser and arc constituents of the heat sources are currently the main problems for the production engineers and researchers. Therefore, the aim of the investigation lies in determination of the effect of process mode parameters of the hybrid laser-arc and laser welding in high-strength steel welding on formation of the structure of the welded joint metal as well as the analysis of effect of this structure on their mechanical properties. The investigation was focused on the high-strength steel N-A-XTRA-70 which is widely used in European Union countries for manufacture of critical structures of different designations. A laboratory bench was developed for experiments. It was used for carrying out investigation on the process flow sheet which provided location of a consumable electrode arc at some distance ahead of a laser beam during welding proceeding. The laser irradiation source was Nd:YAG-laser DY 044 of ROFIN company (Germany). For the first time the results of carried investigations allowed determining the process modes of laser and hybrid laser-arc welding for producing quality and sound welded joints of the high-strength steel from the point of view of the structure formation and metal phase composition providing high indices of mechanical properties and crack resistance of the welded joints. © 2016 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
