A novel combined biofitter, which is composed of acidic scrubber, biofilter and biological aeration basin, was used to treat the odors mixed by NH3 and H2S. The results indicated that the removal rate of NH3 and H2S were over 99% and 90%, respectively with the odors entering singly, when the flow rate of odor was 35 L/h, the fitting spraying quantity of nutriend fluids was 45 L/h, the mass concentration of NH3 was 50.15~525.4 mg/m3 and H2S was 10.23~110.36 mg/m3. The removal rate of NH3 and H2S increased to 100% and 99%, respectively when the odors intaked mixed. In a certain concentration range, the interaction between NH3 and H2S had little influence on their removal efficiency, but promoted the degradation mutually. The removal rate of NH3 and H2S also could be affected by the flow rate and the packing layer height. The combined biofilter had a wide buffering capacity and could recover quickly in a short time of shock loading. And the microorganism in the system would adapt to the high intake volume load gradually. The ammonia solubled in liquid could be removed 96.9% by the biological aeration basin. Source
