A detailed & proper understanding of the main components that comprise a Steam Surface Condenser is absolutely essential when designing an effective maintenance regime. This Paper provides a breakdown for each of the main components, including typical ancillary items, which should be incorporated into visual inspections, and routine testing, when developing an effective maintenance regime for Steam Surface Condensers. Topics cover recommended inspection criteria for the main and ancillary components as well as proposed testing methods. Examples of known component failure modes, suggested repairs, replacements, modifications & upgrades are also included for reference. Implementation of an effective maintenance regime can help to ensure design performance is maintained. Often, it can even lead to improvements in unit availability and overall long term reliability; which in turn can result in tangible reductions in operating costs. Copyright © 2012 by ASME. Source

Given the current energy crisis, saving energy has become a major international issue. The energy efficiency accounts for the cheapest resource from all of the existing resources. We are going to compare a real case of a centralized grid to 2 variants of decentralized grids. The technical and economic calculation is based on the updated net income, updated total expenses, and investment return criteria. The method proposed for reducing the (technical and commercial) losses by medium-voltage distribution grid has a positive effect on the environment through the reduction of the emissions accounting for the saved energy. In many organizations, information system and IT infrastructure have been considered as the most strategic capital and valid information is an important factor leads to business success. In this paper we investigate IT effects on project risk management which is vital in any industrial and business activities as a continuous and forecasting process. Risk management involves identifying the potential risks, measuring, monitoring and controlling them in an organization to meet its strategies and objectives and causes to decrease the undesired effects in project life cycles. It also has a main rule in strategic management of the organization by controlling the threads. In this paper we have estimated the effects of IT usage on 50 Iranian oil companies by analyzing the data which have been provided by questionnaires. Three different indices-cost, time, and performance-have been utilized to evaluate information technology impact on risk management. Our results illustrate the positive impact of information technology on risk management especially in optimizing time of process rather than cost and performance. © 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Libbrecht and Libbrecht recently described a thermoelectric temperature controller for which they claimed an absolute accuracy of 100 mK. They did not specify the heat-dissipation coefficient for their thermistor temperature sensor-which would dissipate more power than is usual in such circuits- nor make any allowance for self-heating in the thermistor. Self-heating can be expected to have introduced more than 100 mK of absolute error in their circuit. © 2011 American Institute of Physics. Source

The present disclosure provides an apparatus for sensing a motion. The apparatus comprises an optical fibre portion comprising a Bragg grating and an element for reducing an impact of an external force that is transversal to the Bragg grating. Further, the apparatus comprises a contact region arranged so that movement of a further region, that is in direct or indirect contact with the contact region and moves in a direction along a portion of the apparatus, causes movement of the optical fibre portion at the contact region. The apparatus also comprises a holder arranged for reducing movement of the optical fibre portion at a holding region when the optical fibre portion is moved at the contact surface. The apparatus is arranged so that movement of the contact region relative to the holding region causes a change in strain of the Bragg grating.
