The invention relates to a method for manufacturing an aluminum/metal assembly including the steps involving: thermally processing an aluminum sheet by heating said sheet to a temperature of between 80% and 100% of the melting temperature of the material of which it consists for a sufficiently long duration to create and stabilize by allotropic conversion an alpha alumina layer at the surface of said aluminum sheet, and then cooling same; providing a metal layer having a ductility less than or equal to the ductility of the aluminum sheet after cooling, said layer having surface irregularities having a depth greater than or equal to the thickness of the alpha alumina layer; and roll bonding the aluminum layer and the metal layer to produce the metal assembly.

A method for manufacturing a metal assembly including an aluminum sheet and at least one metal sheet. An aluminum sheet is treated by heating to a temperature of between 80% and 100% of the melting temperature of the material of which it is comprised for a sufficiently long duration to create and stabilize an alpha alumina layer at the surface of the aluminum sheet. The sheet is then cooled. A metal sheet having a ductility less than or equal to the ductility of the alumimum sheet after cooling is provided, which has surface irregularities having a depth greater than or equal to the thickness of the alpha alumina layer. The aluminum sheet and the metal sheet are roll bonded in a rolling mill to produce the metal assembly, wherein the rolling mill includes at least one cylinder, the outer rolling surface of which is provided with raised portions.

A method of determining the non-propagation threshold of fatigue cracks at high frequency, wherein cyclic loading is exerted on at least one testpiece having an elliptical hole in a testpiece zone, the elliptical hole having a notch at one end and the testpiece being held between two rigid masses with two rigid pre-stress plates being arranged on either side of the at least one testpiece and each fastened at its two ends to the two rigid masses, which cyclic loading is at a frequency that is selected as being equal to the resonant frequency of the assembly including the testpiece, the masses, and the stress plates, so as to generate a fatigue crack from the notch, and then once it has been observed that the crack has stopped propagating, the final length of the crack is measured and a chart is used to determine the non-propagation threshold.
