Environmental management in the Chinese manufacturing industry has attracted global attention. Using environmental indicator data from 2001 to 2010 for this industry, we empirically examine its environmental management efficiency using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Hierarchical Clustering methods. Our findings reveal that the environmental management of the Chinese manufacturing industry has more DEA inefficiency than efficiency. Environmental management efficiency showed a significant decline before 2004, but rapid growth since 2007. Our findings also indicate that there is input redundancy and output insufficiency in the manufacturing industry's environmental management from 2002 to 2004. In addition, we found that most manufacturing sectors in China had consistently inefficient environmental management over the 10 years under study. Overall, our findings reveal that efficiency remains low. Thus, the manufacturing industry's environmental management needs to improve from the perspective of enterprises and government. We hope that our study paves the way for future research into improving the manufacturing industry's environmental management in emerging countries. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.

Inspired by other related works, this paper proposes a non-linear load-capacity model against cascading failures, which is more suitable for real networks. The simulation was executed on the B-A scale-free network, E-R random network, Internet AS level network, and the power grid of the western United States. The results show that the model is feasible and effective. By studying the relationship between network cost and robustness, we find that the model can defend against cascading failures better and requires a lower investment cost when higher robustness is required. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. Gene selection is to select the most informative genes from the whole gene set, which is a key step of the discriminant analysis of microarray data. Rough set theory is an efficient mathematical tool for further reducing redundancy. The main limitation of traditional rough set theory is the lack of effective methods for dealing with real-valued data. However, gene expression data sets are always continuous. This has been addressed by employing discretization methods, which may result in information loss. This paper investigates one approach combining feature ranking together with features selection based on tolerance rough set theory. Moreover, this paper explores the other method which can utilize the information contained within the boundary region to improve classification accuracy in gene expression data. Compared with gene selection algorithm based on rough set theory, the proposed methods are more effective for selecting high discriminative genes in cancer classification. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

As a representative of many emerging economies, BRICS' economies have been greatly developed in recent years. Meanwhile, the proportion of energy consumption of BRICS to the whole world consumption has increased. Therefore, it is significant to analyze and compare the energy efficiency among them. This paper firstly utilizes a Super-SBM model to measure and calculate the energy efficiency of BRICS, then analyzes their present status and development trend. Further, Bootstrap is applied to modify the values based on DEA derived from small sample data, and finally the relationship between energy efficiency and carbon emissions is measured. Results show that energy efficiency of BRICS as a whole is low but has a quickly increasing trend. Also, the relationship between energy efficiency and carbon emissions vary from country to country because of their different energy structures. The governments of BRICS should make some relevant energy policies according to their own conditions. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd.

The cloud is a virtual computing environment that provides applications, platforms and software support as services. The applications are extended over the Internet domain to the cloud service provider (CSP) with greater flexibility and availability at lower cost. Unfortunately, the cloud computing service also provides a better environment for criminals and increases the difficulties of cybercrime forensics. In this paper, we focus on the security issues of cloud services and present a forensic framework to beat cybercrime. We set an analysis engine in the cloud as a network service and this engine is used to monitor the network behaviors and collect the evidence when network criminal behaviors happen. FTK and Encase are used to help subsequently analyze the acquired evidence and obtain ideal results. © 2011 IEEE.
