A handle assembly for a vacuum cleaner comprising a handle, a duct, a valve assembly, and a cover. The handle is attached to the duct, which has an inlet at one end, an outlet at an opposite end, and a bleed aperture located between the inlet and the outlet. The valve assembly comprises a valve and an actuator. The valve is moveable between a closed position and an open position, with the valve closing the bleed aperture when in the closed position and opening the bleed aperture when in the open position. The actuator moves the valve from the closed position to the open position when actuated. The cover surrounds the duct such that an upper part of the cover overlies the bleed aperture and the valve, and one or more holes are formed in a lower part of the cover. During use, suction at the outlet causes a primary airflow to be drawn into the duct via the inlet. Additionally, when the valve is in the open position, the suction causes a secondary airflow to be drawn in through the holes, around the space between the duct and the cover, and into the duct via the bleed aperture.

A fan assembly for creating an air current is described. There is provided a fan assembly (100) comprising a nozzle (1), means for creating an air flow through the nozzle (1) and a filter (26, 126, 226) for removing particulates from the air flow. The nozzle (1) comprises an interior passage (10), a mouth (12) for receiving the air flow from the interior passage (10). The filter (26, 126, 226) is located within the nozzle (1). The fan provides an arrangement producing an air current and a flow of cooling air created without requiring a bladed fan i.e. air flow is created by a bladeless fan.

A nozzle for a fan assembly includes an air inlet, a plurality of air outlets, and an annular casing having an annular inner wall defining a bore through which air from outside the nozzle is drawn by air emitted from the air outlets and an outer wall extending about the inner wall. The annular casing includes an air passage for conveying air to the air outlets. The air passage has an inlet section located between the inner wall and the outer wall and extending about the bore of the nozzle, and a plurality of outlet sections each extending across the bore for conveying air to a respective air outlet. A nozzle for attachment to a hair dryer includes a body and an airflow guiding member. The body has an internal surface which defines an airflow duct which extends from an air inlet end for receiving an airflow to a slot-shaped air outlet end of the body. The internal surface has opposing first surface sections which taper inwardly towards the air outlet end, and opposing second surface sections which taper outwardly towards the air outlet end. The airflow guiding member guides a first portion of a received airflow towards one of the second surface sections, and a second portion of the received airflow towards the other of the second surface sections.
