Experimental investigations of friction factor and heat transfer characteristics through a square duct fitted with helical screw tapes of various twist ratios have been studied under nearly uniform wall temperature conditions. The experimental results reveal that the use of helical screw tapes leads to a considerable increase in heat transfer and friction loss over those of a plain square duct. The Nusselt number increases with the rise of Reynolds number and the reduction of twist ratio. The Performance evaluation criteria have been presented and maximum performance ratio was observed for minimum twist ratio. © 2013 Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering. Source


This paper presents an experimental study on engine performance & emission based on Taguchi method and grey relational analysis for optimization of six input parameters and their five levels. Combined effect of input parameters viz. compression ratio, injection pressure, injection-nozzle geometry, additive, fuel fraction and EGR in controlling BSFC and NOxas the response variables in CI engine fueled with Mangifera Indica biodiesel blends was investigated. Number of experiments was reduced by employing Taguchi's L25orthogonal array. The signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio and grey relational analysis techniques were used for data analysis. The combination of six input parameters was obtained for optimized engine performance and emission. The optimal combination of input parameters so obtained was further confirmed through experiments. The injection nozzle geometry was the most influencing parameter. The GRG improvement with mangifera indica Methyl Ester blend is 84.26% compared to GRG at initial settings of engine for diesel fuel. © Copyright 2016 SAE International. Source

The first order plus time delay (FOPTD) model was considered and the improved relay tuning method considering higher order of harmonics (N) was applied for tuning to calculate the corrected ultimate gain (Ku). This corrected value was used to estimate PID parameters by Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) method. Then these PID parameters were considered for Taguchi orthogonal array (OA) and their three different values were considered. The Taguchi Method was applied to estimate the optimum values of PID parameters. The closed loop response was obtained using these optimum values of PID parameters and compared with that of conventional method and Padmasree method. It was found that the Integral Square Error (ISE) for conventional, Padmasree method and proposed method are 27.43, 27 and 7.9 respectively and hence the proposed method gives better performance. This article focuses on the study of mechanical properties of lap joints between AA 6061-T6 and AISI 304 stainless steel having a thickness of 1mm each using friction stir welding. The effect of process parameters such as welding traverse speed and plunge depth (pin penetration) on the ultimate tensile strength, microhardness, and bonding mechanism have been studied. Welding traverse speed and plunge depth appear to be very influential parameters on the mechanical properties. Microhardness profile reveals that the maximum hardness occurs at the interface zone, which indicates the brittle nature of the intermetallic compound. AlFe, Al13Fe4 and AlCrFe2 were detected at the interface zone by using XRD tests. SEM study shows that the fracture in the heat affected zone is quasi-cleavage in nature. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. 2-Picoline is a derivative of pyridine. Due to the hazardous nature, the removal of 2-picoline from wastewater is important. In the present study, the ability of agro coal ash as an adsorbent for the removal of 2-picoline from wastewater in a broad range of concentration (50–300 mg/L) was investigated. The influence of various experimental parameters like initial pH, adsorbent dose, contact time, initial concentration and temperature on the removal of 2-picoline on agro coal ash were studied. The optimum conditions for the maximum removal of 2-picoline were found to be: initial pH 6, contact time = 7 h and adsorbent dose = 2 g/L. Adsorption of 2-picoline followed pseudo-second-order rate kinetics. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption equilibrium isotherm models were analysed. The values of the change in Gibb’s free energy (ΔG), enthalpy (ΔH) and entropy (ΔS) were calculated. Thermodynamic studies revealed that adsorption of 2-picoline on agro coal ash is an endothermic process. © 2013 Balaban Desalination Publications. All rights reserved. Source
