A numerical investigation is performed to study the MHD free convection flow past a semi-infinite inclined plate subjected to a variable surface temperature. The Joule heating and viscous dissipation effects are taken into account in the energy equation. The governing equations of the flow are transformed into a nondimensional form using suitable dimensionless quantities. A fully developed implicit finite-difference scheme of Crank-Nicolson type is engaged to solve the dimensionless governing equations, which is more accurate, fast convergent, and unconditionally stable. The effects of the MHD, inclination angle, power law, Grashof number, Prandtl number, Joule heating, and viscous dissipation effects are studied on the velocity, temperature, shear stress, and heat transfer coefficients during transient periods. It is observed that the MHD has retarding effects on velocity. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. Source

Ni and Cr are ubiquitous pollutants in the aquatic environments. These heavy metals elicit toxicities to aquatic organisms including microbes. In this study, interaction of the two heavy metals on the toxicity in Escherichia coli (E. coli) was studied using FTIR spectroscopy. The binding of Ni(II) to E. coli was stronger than that for Cr(VI). Cr exhibited antagonistic effects in the presence of Ni in E. coli. FTIR analysis showed a decrease in lipid content in the presence of Ni and not for Cr. Further, a decrease in band area was observed in the region of 3000–2800 cm−1 and at ~1455 cm−1 due to a decrease in fatty acids and lipid molecules. The band area ratio of lipid was used to monitor the changes in fatty acids due to metal toxicity. Principle component method helps to discriminates the results between control and metal toxicities in E. coli from the FTIR data. The study shows the importance of metal interaction and its toxicity on E. coli. © 2016 Elsevier Inc. Source

Numerical modeling of two-dimensional, unsteady, laminar, isothermal heat and mass transfer by MHD free convection flow past an impulsively started vertical cylinder in the presence of Dufour and Soret effects is considered. The governing equations of the flow problems, valid in the free convection regime, are transformed into a nondimensional form using appropriate nondimensional parameters. These equations are solved numerically by an efficient, implicit, iterative, finite-difference scheme of Crank-Nicolson type. A parametric study illustrating the influence of the magnetic field, Grashof number, and the Dufour and Soret numbers on the fluid velocity, temperature, and concentration, as well as the local and average skin friction, Nusselt and Sherwood numbers is conducted. Cloud computing is the process of using the network of remote hosted servers on the Internet. Cloud stores, manages and processes enormous amount of data without the use of local server or personal computers. The salient feature most share are on-demand scalability of highly available and reliable computing resources, secure access to metered services from anywhere and dislocation of data from inside of the organization to outside. While aspects of these features have been realized, still cloud computing remains a work in progress. Among them, one big challenge is about the security of data stored in cloud. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of cloud computing architecture and the security and privacy challenges involved. In specific, this paper deals with Distributed Denial of Service Attacks (DDOS) on the distributed cloud servers and also provides an effective solution to prevent those attacks by port lock mechanism using SFA algorithm (Server File Access algorithm). © 2006-2016 Asian Research Publishing Network (ARPN). In the present analysis, a numerical study is performed to examine the heat transfer characteristics of a convective flow over a vertical plate under the combined effects of magnetic field and thermal radiation in the presence of heat source/sink. The surface of the plate is subjected to a variable surface temperature. The boundary layer equations governing the flow are reduced to non-dimensional equations valid in the free convection regime using the suitable non-dimensional parameters. The dimensionless governing equations are solved by an implicit finite difference method of Crank-Nicolson type which is fast convergent, more accurate and unconditionally stable. Numerical results are obtained and presented for velocity, temperature, local and average wall shear stress, local and average Nusselt number in air. The present results are compared with the results available in the literature and are found to be in an excellent agreement. © 2012 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. Source
