Since its start of operation, the Dongping hydropower station has suffered from serious abnormal vibrations and impact noises in the high-load and low-load modes, which is a threat to the safety, reliability and efficiency of the units, and even to the safety of the plant and dam. To identify the causes and alleviate this problem, the power plant, pump testing agency and manufacturer carried out an experimental study and through a combined condition optimization they succeeded in mitigating these vibrations and noises in some of the load conditions. This shows that combined optimization is an effective mean to improve the stability of bulb-type hydro generating set. This paper summarizes the main results and provides a reference for the research in this field. © Copyright. Source
