In viscose fiber production the dissolving pulp with proper quality is required, the kind of raw material and production process of the dissolving pulp are very important. The pulping mechanisms and the properties of the resultant dissolving pulps were analyzed when the processes of acid sulfite (AS) and pre-hydrolysis kraft (PHK) were applied. Other important parameters such as: chemical purity, molecular weight and molecular weight distribution, and reactivity of the dissolving pulps produced from the two processes were compared. © 2015, China Technical Association of Paper Industry. The increasing consumption of regenerated cellulose, in particular the viscose fiber, has led to a significant development of dissolving pulps in the last decade. In this review paper, the current status of dissolving pulp with respects to raw materials, manufacturing processes, and some key issues are discussed. Non-wood materials and the process concept of upgrading paper-grade pulp into dissolving pulp are also included. Some recent developments related to the analytical methods of the purity and molecular weight distribution based on the ion chromatography and gel permeation chromatography are discussed. Finally, further processing improvements of purification, such as mechanical, chemical, and enzymatic treatment, and their combinations during the manufacturing process of dissolving pulp, are included. This paper mainly studies on the Po bleaching of magnesium-based sulfite bamboo/bagasse pulp, which is pretreated with sulfuric acid. The experimental results indicate that the optimal conditions are as follows: temperature 80 °C, time 70min, the dosage of Na2SiO3 4.0% and the charge of NaOH 2.5%. Under these optimized conditions, the brightness of the bleached pulp is up to 81.96%ISO while the Kappa number is 6.8. Evidently, the Po process is an effective bleaching process with non-pollution, which is suitable for this kind of pulp. © 2010 IEEE. Source

The mottles on the prints of different kinds of paper with different smoothness such as color offset newsprint, art paper and one-side coated paper were measured and evaluated. Results showed that four kinds of mottle measurement methods are useful to predict the print quality, comparisons in pairs is a quite reliable subjective evaluationg method however spectrum analysis of the PTS DOMAS module is an better objective quantitative assessment of the mottle. The back trap mottle in the print of different kinds of paper such as color offset newsprint, art paper and single coated paper was evaluated in this paper. Results showed that the optimized conditions of two kinds of newsprint are as follows: ink amount 0.10 mL, printing pressure 650 N, printing speed 0.4 m/s; there exists inconsistent correlation between objective quantitative assessment of mottling and subjective evaluation. Less mottle is obtained with the least ink amount by means of objective quantitative assessment, however, less mottle results are obtained with the medium ink amount when using subjective evaluation. The optimized conditions of the two kinds of single coated paper are as follows: ink amount 0.35 mL, printing pressure 200 N, printing speed 0.3 m/s. The optimized conditions of art paper are different. Results showed that there exists consistent correlation between 2 groups and 4 groups subjective evaluation of mottling. Among the three objective analysis methods, spectrum analysis correlates most closely with the visual results, then the PTS method. And the grey value method correlates at the least. So the spectrum analysis and the PTS method are expected to be the new methods for evaluation of the back trap mottle. Source
