In this study, an analytical elasto-plastic stress analysis was proposed to determine the shear stress in a ductile adhesively bonded single-lap joint. DP460 adhesive was employed in the present study. The von-Mises criterion was used for checking the yield condition of the adhesive material. In the solution, the shear stress was assumed to be constant across the thickness of the adhesive. Bending moment was neglected in the solution. Analytical results were checked by using the finite element analysis. ANSYS 10 was employed in the numerical solution. Analytical and numerical solutions are found to be in a good agreement. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The effects of binary and ternary combinations of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), fly ash (FA) and silica fume (SF) on compressive strength, flexural strength, water sorptivity, permeable voids and drying shrinkage of steam cured alkali-activated cement (AAC) mortars were investigated within the scope of this study. Also, three-level full factorial experimental design and response surface method were used for the optimisation of the amount of mineral additives by maximising compressive and flexural strengths while minimising drying shrinkage, water sorptivity and permeable voids. The use of ternary blends in AAC provided significant decreases in drying shrinkage, water sorptivity and permeable void content. However, the mechanical performance of ternary blended AAC has been negatively affected compared to GGBFS mortar. Nevertheless, compressive strength values of all binary and ternary blends of AAC were higher than conventional Portland cement mortar. The optimum AAC composition was obtained with a ternary mixture containing 20.3% FA, 18.9% SF and 60.8% GGBFS. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the great deluge algorithm (GDA), which has not been previously used in constrained mechanical design optimization problems is employed to solve several design optimization problems selected from the literature. The GDA algorithm needs only one basic parameter to setup, which makes it very attractive for solving optimization problems. First time in this paper, an attempt is made to see whether it is possible to enhance the performance of a very simple algorithm like GDA to solve complex constrained non-linear design optimization problems by embedding chaotic maps in its neighborhood generation mechanism. Eight different chaotic maps are tested and compared in this paper. It is observed that chaotic maps can considerably improve the performance of GDA and enables it to find the best possible solutions for the studied problems. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. The number of immunosuppressive patients has increased significantly in recent years. These patients are at risk for opportunistic infections, especially fungal infections. Candidiasis is one of the most frequent fungal infections determined in these immunosuppressive patients and its epidemiology has changed over the last two decades. Recently, new antifungal agents and new therapy strategies such as antifungal prophylaxis, secondary prophylaxis, and preemptive therapy have come into use. These changes resulted in the alteration of Candida species causing invasive infections. The incidence of Candida albicans was decreased in many countries, especially among patients with immunosuppressive disorders, while the incidence of species other than C. albicans was increased. In this review, incidence, risk factors, and species distribution of invasive candidiasis are discussed. © 2014 Yapar.

The effect of the random magnetic field distribution on the phase diagrams and ground state magnetizations of Ising nanowire is investigated using effective field theory with correlations. Trimodal distribution has been chosen as a random magnetic field distribution. The variation of the phase diagrams with that distribution parameters has been obtained and some interesting results have been found such as reentrant behavior and first order transitions. Also for the trimodal distribution, ground state magnetizations for different distribution parameters have been determined which can be regarded as separate partially ordered phases of the system. © 2012 Elsevier B.V.
